Poor College Student CB360 Build

Final engine assembly commences tomorrow morning! Hopefully I will have a video of it running tomorrow.

looks good man. i like the colors. i just got my 360 running not to long ago. it feel amazing to hear it run for the first time. good luck

Thanks everyone! Unfortunately I did not finish the engine today. My buddy and I worked on it and kept running into little problems. Original bolts breaking, snap rings, stupid mistakes. I could have finished it today, but all the hardware stores close at 7. So tomorrow I will be getting up early to get the needed parts and have it assembled. I probably won't get it running because I need to study for finals. Though I will try and post pictures tomorrow.

SO I have been working on the bike here and there. I have a few things finished such as engine, engine on frame, mounting electrical crap, and a few others. Wiring has been a nightmare for me. I couldn't get spark to save my life. Though after hours of shifting through the interwebs I believe my problem was that there was absolutely no power going to the coil from the kill switch. When I made this change my ignition switch decided to crap out on me, so it will be a few days before I get back on it. Hopefully I can get it running before the weekend begins and get the chain put on it. Since I got my bill of sale finally I just have to pay a police officer a $15 fee to say it is good and then I get my tag and title! I will keep you all updated!

I haven't wired that up yet. I am thinking that will be a winter project along with a completely new wiring harness. As of now I am just itching to get it running and riding it. Though I would be happy to send you pictures of it once I do.

Well I went home for Memorial Day weekend to see the family. It was so good to see and relax in desolate Kansas. Finally, I did get to take the good old truck off-road and go shooting for a bit.

Anyways I checked USPS and my new ignition switch is waiting for me back at my house. Hopefully I can get it running when I get back tomorrow. Realizing I have said that a lot I am damn determined to get it going.

I am just pulling this off my 1800Help post, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am about at my whits end with this. Currently I have everything wired up and working. My headlights, taillight (need to get resistor for it though), horn, and turnsignals (turn on but do not blink even with new electronic turn signal) work. Though I cannot for the life of me get any sort of spark with my bike. I did buy this http://www.sears.com/craftsman-digital-mini-multimeter/p-03482345000P?prdNo=6 multimeter, but I am not quite sure how to use it properly.

Where do I need to start and what am I looking for to solve this problem. I did buy a used pair of coils from ebay but I am afraid I was ripped off and got some that do not work.

The control switch on the bike is this http://www.dimecitycycles.com/vintage-cafe-racer-caferacer-bobber-brat-chopper-custom-motorcycle-electronic-handlebar-parts-black-headlight-blinker-control-killswitch-12-0041.html. Instead of using the ground for the kill switch I connected it to a black power wire. I figured that is the only way it would get power to the coils.

My knowledge with wiring is extremely limited and any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

I just had this exact same problem with my 71 cl350. The problem was that I hadnt bypassed the killswitch wire properly. The wire for your killswitch is wired directly to your coils and without it delivering power to the coils you have no spark. So what I did, since Im using basically nothing(no controls no blinkers no horn) I hard wired the coil wire into my hot wire powering my headlight and tail light. I made a very very basic wiring harness. What needs power gets it and thats it. Let me know if that helps. Like i said I was in an identical situation everything worked but no spark.

Thanks for the advice! I want to keep some kind of kill switch since this is my first street bike. Would you think it would be possible do wire it up through a three way toggle switch?

BTW I really like your 350!

Thanks man! Ive made a lot of progress in a months time. Yes absolutely you should be just fine using a toggle switch. Just go to autozone or whatever and grab one. Let me know how it turns out and keep going on that bike, its going to be sweet.

Because I still have the stock (plastic) headlight bucket, I went to radio shack, bought a round switch and drilled. Works awesome. But I think your HL bucket is metal. I will be replacing my headlamp and bucket soon, so still thinking how to get creative with a new switch. Maybe mounted on the frame somewhere.

Hey everyone! So tried out a couple of toggle switches that were left over from other projects and I still don't have any spark. I am wondering if my culprit is a bad set of points.. I used my multimeter and tested the continuity of them and I got nothing. I am not sure if I am suppose to have continuity with them but I kind of wonder if that is the problem. Also I have tried a different condenser and no luck. ???

Tomorrow I will be moving to my new and permanent home till I graduate, so I probably won't have a chance to work on her till Saturday. Anyways I am pretty stoked, because we will have a nice little attached garage that will be our workshop. Hopefully more winter projects are in my future (maybe carbon fiber components if my wallet isn't hurting too bad)!

A little update for everyone. I decided to just by a whole new ignition system. For about sixty bucks I got two brand new coils, new condensor, new points, new plug wires and new boots. It will be here in a couple of days. In the mean time I am going to take the bike to a shop and have my chain installed professionally. That is one thing I am not too comfortable with.

sweet deal! where did you get a score like that

I got all my goodies from here! http://www.z1enterprises.com/default.aspx

The coils are "Universal" though they have the same specs as the originals! I am hoping they work just as well.

So I am trying to get it started for the first time. I have it set up for kickstart only. Anyways when I am trying to turn it over I get this popping sound. I have not been able to get it started yet. I know I have spark. A few times I have sprayed carb cleaner where the spark plugs go then wrench the spark plugs in hoping to get it going that way. Though when I have been doing that the pop comes. I don't want to damage anything. Any ideas what it could be and how to get it going?

If you have spark compression and fuelit has to work. Try spraying some starter fluid or gas directly into the carbs and it should kick over. Its probably going to take some persistance but you should be able to get it going. Stupid question but youve got the correct size battery right? If not it will never start.
