Portuguese CB360

Hello,

My name's Filipe, i'm from Portugal and about 1 year ago i bought my first motorcycle, an old Honda CB360. These bikes are not very common here, to be honest in 30 years its the first one i've seen.

The idea at first was to keep it original but i'm going with cafe racer.

Don't know much about bikes, never owned one before, only cars and a 3 year Toyota BJ40 restoration, great machine :)

Hope you guys can answer some questions i have about a few modifications i'm not sure i can do

Here are some pictures:

When i first bought it

Didint want to paint the engine and as there are no shops around to media blast the aluminium parts, after a lot of search i built a cabinet

Opened the engine covers (top and sides) cleaned the oil filter, everything else was fine i think as i have tested the engine when i first bought the bike, changed the oil etc.

Started the assembly

Welcome to DTT Filipe !
Holy cow bud, talking about saving a bike from the dead.

The work you are doing looks really nice.

33,217 is a LOAD of kms. Did you open the top of engine and pull and check the tensioner slides? They are a wear item.

#13 & 19, new aftermarket can be found at www.sparckmoto.com

Hello DesertKz, trek97,

I did take the top off but the only thing i checked was the wear on the cam and the bearings.
The first time i started the bike there was a rattle noise, i loose the cam chain tensioner bolt, heard a ''clack'' and then the rattle noise was gone. Could we tell then the tensioners are ok? What do you look for to check the tensioner sliders?

Really jumped right in there, I'll follow along to see this finished. Wish we had access to more modern 125-250cc bikes here in the states, that TZR front end looks great on your CB.

The tensioners in that parts fiche are the upgraded recall version. I'd at least make sure they are that version.

Small cracks, Big cracks, deep wear grooves, broken, basically anything that dont look right. Replace them.
If they look like the recall versions, replace them. Apparently the ends can snap off and lock up the engine at anytime it running.

Thanks, those tensioners are definitely something i'll look into when i remove the engine again for the final frame paint due to some scratches and cuts i still have to make.

The TZR front end works with some adjustments, the brake caliper had to be grinded because it would hit the spokes. Still have to make a piece to adapt the 280mm rotor to the original CB hub.

When i first started picturing the rear

30 year old stick welder, bad welder (me) and 1mm steel sheet -.- , hole after hole ;D
But finished

Now i'm trying to figure how to mount the battery and electrics. Found some cheap 12v 8Ah small scooter batteries, is it ok with the original electric system? I want to use both the electric and the kick starter.

The battery will go under the seat bump

This is the idea, its aluminium sheet, does any of those parts need ground?

Will start on the rear sets soon

Another one 8)
There should be green wires to ground things. It's really worth getting a more modern rectifier/regulator as charging will be better
8A/hr battery will work but you will probably be better off kickstarting when cold as it needs to start within a few seconds or voltage will drop too low for coils and starter

Hello,

No problem about kickstarting the bike most of the times.

About the regulator and rectifier, is there a specific brand or type I should search? Whats your advice?

Dont know about shipping but Sonreir sells a great one...

Go with a Sparck Moto Reg/Rec. It is worth it. If I remember right he can make them to be plug and play for the CB360, don't quote me though haha.

There's a list of modern sport bike reg/rect on here, do a search
Shipping for a SparcMoto R/R may not be too bad but you may have import duties on top which could make things unecoonomical
I think Mr.E posted list?

Thanks Crazypj, i'll look into that. I have a small voltmeter that was on my toyota and was thinking about mounting it on the CB, what do you think?
Now am trying to find someone who can fabricate the spacer for the rotor, i've already made the drawing, will post it here soon.

Best regards
Filipe
