Positioning rearsets

So I'm down to the last bits of my bike, unfortunately, one of those bits is the rearsets. I had originally planned on doing the rearsets using bike stems as mentioned on another forum, so to do that, I chopped off the passenger peg mounts. Looking back, I really wish I hadn't, as I could have just used them to mount my rearsets. But the past is in the past, so now I am working on creating my own mount for them. the plus being that I can perfectly position them. The minus being they are proving to be the absolute hardest thing about this project.

So I am wondering, are there any guidelines of "best-placement" rules to follow when placing rearsets? I see alot of them placed pretty close to where the original footpeg would have been, or where the passenger footpegs would have been, but that doesn't seem very comfortable. When I sat on my bike and had my brother move them around, it seemed the most comfortable place was a bit further back then where the passenger pegs were.

Now I know everyone will be different based on height, seat, riding position, and bike type, but I was wondering, are there any guidelines out there, and how did you all place your rearsets?

Your regret (but I haven't cut mine off) is exactly what I want to do with my 360 project. I want to reuse the existing rear foot peg mounts (single bolt to the plate)
What were you looking at that would be a direct mount to the rear foot peg mount? If you have a site you can direct me to, that would be great.

I'm at about this stage too, and I recall reading something about this very question on here somewhere.

If I'm correct you draw an imaginary line from your "Crown Jewels" down and where that intersects the frame thats about right.

Anyone correct me if that doesn't sound right.

Cheers

The ones I have are these: http://guzzino.com/collectibles.html (the first ones). They're kinda spendy, but they would work on the rear passenger peg mounts, though you might need to do a little drilling to get the hole to fit.

@NoZ69R: Yea, I've heard that several times too. It seems to be a pretty good measurement, as that's just about where I placed mine by just using what felt comfortable.

rearsets should be positioned below the riders center of gravity. Personally, I think passenger peg mounts are way to far back. Though, maybe not too
far back on a little bike. Check out pics of vintage race bikes, or even a modern day sport bike, the riders feet aren't behind his ass!

I'd try and position them so that your not placing your entire body weight on your arms. This will suck and you'll hate to ride it.

Make them modular if you can, this will allow you to adjust the placement easily enough if you find your riding position isn't desirable.
