No more wandering drill bits. Should have purchased a drill press a long time ago. Normally not one of the things I would buy from harbor freight but for 50 bucks I might get 100 holes drilled with it ha. 50 cents a hole
Thanks, it's one of the Vietnam eBay seats. I took a gamble ordering it after reading some of the posts of people who had a horrible experience with the seller while there were others who had nothing but good things to say about them. I lucked out I guess and got one of the good ones, I'm really happy with it.

Cloyd, so you know... Its not the actual press and motor that a crap.. Yea they aren't the best but those are things you can skimp on. The crappy part on those drill presses is the chuck. You can go to a store that sells chucks(my pops knows places to get them, I'd have to ask him) you can get a nice chuck for 70-100 bucks and that press will be worth having and will actuall make straight cuts for a long time. Granted you might not be able to turn that new chuck to its limits on metal due to the motor but if you upgrade presses later on, you can take that chuck out and put it in the new press, chances are that chuck you bought will be better than the new press' chuck.

I just picked up the same drill press from Harbor Freight a couple of weeks ago too. Along with a 3" vise grip and a nail gun. Hehe I was pretty giddy when it all came in the mail. ;D ;D
Anyways, is there a way that the chuck is supposed to attach securely to the drill press? I'm guessing it just presses up onto the rotating rod, if I can call it that. This is my first drill press, so new to the design. Just want to run it by someone else here who I'm sure is much more knowledgeable me!
Not really a recent purchase but Its Home. After 2 years at the body shop. Finally he finished before he started to charge me storage. This is why my motorcycle builds are always on a budget.
SocialMike, typically the whole unit drops out the bottom. You would take the pulley off the top and I'm sure there is a race or keeper up there and it should drop out the bottom.. Give it a look over under the lid where the belts are and see whats holding it in there. I'll call my pops tomorrow and get some info for you guys on the chucks and the process.
Socalmike,
I'm
Unsure on the tiny presses, but most of the Bigger presses have a press in chuck and spindle.
Just pull the chuck down like you were drilling a hole and then look for a place to insert the key to press out the shaft.
That one has a press-in chuck, unless they've changed something since I got mine. I put a serious chuck in mine and it's served me pretty well. If you can pull it off, a vice for the press table is really handy.

Yea, if you google him you'll find a handful of buyer beware stories. I also found a bunch of builds on here and other forums that really liked his seats. I just got the seat yesterday but it seams to be well made.

The chuck is on a morse taper. A standard item. I have one of those drill presses too. The chuck has a little runout. If I punch a start dimple, no problem.
I priced a good Jacobs chuck with morse taper. A nice one was about $150. I couldn't bear to spend $150 on a $50 drill. I put up with the runout.
