Post a pic of your latest purchase

Damian, what brand are those? I bought a set from Home Depot and they were absolute shit. Yours look much beefier than the ones I picked up.

The DG silencers were a purchase. I plan to mod my chambers at Kileys this year :D
The plate was a gift from Yinzer. Some "garage art" for the shop ;)

When disassembling my current project, two bolts broke. So I bought a set of screw extractors or "easy outs".

Damian.
A set of left-hand-twist drill bits is a much better solution to that problem. As a machinist, I have a deep and abiding hatred of all things EZ out. You have no idea the pain in the ass, those are to get out, after they break.

This. And the post just after it.

the actual bits break? I've only used extractors a couple times.. thank god they didn't break.

Yeah, they have very little "side-to-side" bendability...they will shatter. So make sure you are STRAIGHT ON. And yeah, they break at the lowest point, and are extremely hard so they don't come out very easily. I've had to use a dremel and grinding discs to get them out before :( never again. I'll take it to a machine shop and save myself the headache, or weld a nut to it before I use another "easy" out.

I was a machinist for years and have removed hundreds of broken bolts. But have never had one of those ez outs do anything but let me down.

Crusader, something looks "off" about your carbs. Can you take a picture from each side of the bike, focusing on the carbs?

Personally, that tank looks so good I wouldn't put any decals on it.

Thanks for the compliments! And like I said they are temporary and that was pretty much my only option from the dealer locally. They had new school Triumph decals that were smaller but theres no way those are going on this bike. The red ones I have on order are smaller. And the cafe racer sticker is just because they only had one Triumph decal...Theres a vintage bike show this weekend so I wanted to have something.

Heres some pictures of the carbs...I hope theres nothing out of place..If you see something I would be very grateful for the help!

And heres a picture of the bike with no decals as some would prefer...

Is the idle adjustment screw on your left carb on the left or right side? The vent tube is blocking it in that pic. Also, it looks like your carbs are tilted. There's that "C" shape in the casting above the air filters - a long bolt should be able to run thru both of them to assure the carbs are level with each other.

Are you saying they don't work? Because I've removed dozens of stripped bolts with them.

I'm totally with bradj on this one
When 'Easyouts' work, you didn't need them, you use a spring loaded center punch or left hand drill bit to back out broken bolt
When they snap (every time on a seized bolt) you then have to waste hours fixing someone else's mistake (not quite how it's described ;) )
Just wait until you break an exhaust stud, you'll have so much 'fun' ::)

Anyway, back to the Trumpet
It's a good idea to replace all of the vent and drain lines with ones at least double the length you have now, there is enough vacuum pulse to make fuel in float bowl pulse and act like a pump which sucks in air and water vapour at certain rpm.
Over time you get water build up in float bowls (strange but true ;D )
The longer length tubes prevent the pulsing becoming a problem

Rich, you need a couple of lock nuts or a spacer between carbs so they get 'tied' together.
It's also somewhere to put a small tension spring to frame so they don't droop and split manifolds or fall off
Haven't worked on one since around 1991 but not much has changed 8)

Wet salt sucks!! Part of the necessary replacements after a wet Bonneville. Still waiting on sidecar wheel bearings and I have to go get some inner and outer cable to make up a new clutch cable.

Got the spacer / support part already......was unaware about the drain tubes though. Thanks PJ!

The only reason I know about it is Yamaha sent out a service bulletin, probably around 1980.
They didn't want to do any more warranty work because people were screwing with stuff ;D
There was a mnimum safe length but I can't remember what it was

I don't know why they come with such short tubes anyway. Mine were only a few inches long, totally useless. Still haven't gotten around to replacing them.
