Thats gonna make prototyping so nice. Well and some cool fun projects that the IRS need not know about when you write it off 8)

I don't know what you mean. It's purely for business purposes. ;D

Took me a few hours to get everything set up. Turns out the previous owner replaced the firmware with an open source version and the software that's meant to run the printer no longer recognized it. I'm using an open source setup, now but at least it all works.

Modeled a new gauge face and printed it out. Took about 40 minutes and quality is so-so, but there are a lot of settings to mess with and I think I can improve it a bit.

Crap for you guys and great for those of us who like to hop the border to take advantage of the drinking age ;)

LOL yes it means beer in USD here is a lot cheaper for you. I used to hop the boarder to get beer but with exchange it is no longer cheap enough to make the trip.

A simple plaster cast of anything Matt prints to form a mold for lost wax. Saturate the mold in water to cast wax.

The wax gets melted out in a kiln to leave the void for metal. No plastic will work that way, as far as I know.

My other hobby. I like to take telescopes that optically work well, and refinish them, add new focusers, and create something interesting. Just picked up a used version of this scope to play with.

Scored an alloy rear guard complete with rubber number plate for £10 ($15)

....it'll clean up nicely to a scotchbrite finish and match the one I have for the front.

Could you do wax for lost wax castings?

A friend of mine has a couple 3D printers and claims jewelers are using something that allows them to do lost wax casting. Google could probably answer the question for sure but I've been led to believe there are people doing it.
