Hope Thea's help. Home made race trailer made from a 6x4 . Took off front tailgate and made a 1 foot extension then put gate back on front of this. Two wheel clamps mounted to floor and front gate. Box cage built from square tube and scun with aluminum sheet and lined with polystyrene foam to stop sides drumming. Fits two bikes and all my camping gear and tools.
Was hoping to see what anybody else had built. I can't be the only nut building my own. Next project is to add positive pressure air system to keep out the dust. Anyone done that?
I took an old, beat up pop up camper down to the frame and built a 7'x11' utility trailer w drop ramp on top of it. Welded on uprights, bent and welded fenders, fabbed up the gate from rough stock, tek-screwed decks and sides. Cost me about $350 all said and done.
I'll be hauling my bikes and tools across the country (moving from MA to TX) in a couple weeks, so that will be the ultimate test of my handiwork
Nice work on the trailers guys. Mine was home made sort of. My dads old trailer was rusted out. Kept the draw bar and axel. Built the rest. Old campers make a great base and one of these days I'm going to build a tipper car trailer.
Old campers do make a great base. Mine came from a 1950's camper. My old man gave me his last weekend. It had odd hubs with a 4 X 5" lug pattern and a huge center, so I machined it out to accept VW wheels. Next I'll replace the floor and decide what I want to do with the triangles and decide whether to go fenders or not. He put in aluminum I-beams for the sub-floor, so it should hold plenty of weight. It has a cool torsion axle which I love...
I have torsion suspension on my caravan. I would recommend a removable roof as it gives a multipurpose type trailer. I use mine to haul my bikes to the salt in Australia. One really rough road. Hence why I need to exclude the dust. Use the triangles to support toolboxes maybe?
The salt makes things rust so quick. My sprocket collection was orange and crusty when I got back this year. Soaked them in citric acid and oiled. Came up ok
Nice. I'd still have to strap down. Worst roads you have ever seen
Great trailer. Have been lining mine with core flute but like the plywood. Might change to that now
