Building a vintage bike scene in Colorado Springs
Here is what I did to shorten my Motion Pro fuel screw adjusting tool so it would fit in my battery box. While riding in Colorado it is sometimes nice to tune on the fly because of elevation. It was shortened about 6", left just long enough to reach the inside carbs.

This is a stand I just made for my 110lb anvil that I inherited from my Grandpa. It is fun welding on 1/4" steel, just burning it together!

You should put some leg braces on that stand there bud, before you lose a toe or any other smaller lower appendage!

Or both his legs...

What, your worried about the legs spreading apart?? That is 2"x2"x1/4" steel. It would take a come-a-long with a lot of force to pull the legs apart. More force than a 110lb anvil with straight downward pressure can create. There is just enough flex in the legs so you can make it not rock if you happen to place it on a spot where the concrete isn't perfectly flat.

I would bet I could turn that stand upside down on the floor and break one of the legs off with my hands.

I am happily surprised to find myself agreeing with this fellow.

Yeah man. Not to pile on but I work in a fab shop of sorts and have seen sturdier things break. I bet if you pushed on the anvil hard enough those legs would fold up. A few pieces of angle tying the legs together at the ground would solve the problem.

Even after you threw your back out picking up the anvil and setting it to the side first?

I would love to see you try to bend a 2' stick of 2x2x1/4! There is no chance in hell that you could do that, well unless your welds weren't competent. I didn't just come up with the idea, there is a place here called Glaser Steel that has been around for 60+ years that has all their anvils on stands just like this one. Once welded I also yanked and pried on the legs to see if I could bend it and it wasn't bending. Thanks for the concern though.

Well, I'm not a welder or a painter but I have a lot of ideas...

We've lived in India most of my daughter's life and she loves the three-wheeler taxis ("autorickshaws," originally trike-converted scooters, now a separate breed) almost as much as my bike or the scooter.

So the wife and I came up with a plan, based on the fact we never had those cool race car beds as kids. Worked with some guys I know who do custom motorcycle paint and bodywork/fabrication, and in the end, Sophie ended up sleeping in this:

It has internal and external lighting, a fan, and comes apart for transport. Got some small things to smooth out still, and it's probably not the paragon of child safety, but we're all digging it.

(And here, as purchased:)
