Here's my track bike project... It's old, by sportbike standards, that is. Buell factory race springs, CF upper fairing and belly pan, Jardine CF exhaust, XBRR rear brake rotor, Pro Flo billet clip-ons, ECM to be remapped via ECM SPY, cut away airbox, and will be shod with Pirelli Super Corsas. Wanna race?

CB350 Twin. Very capable track bike even with a stock motor... though this one hopped up.

CB450 forks and triple clamps with Suzuki T500 front drum and Akronts on both ends. It later got RZ350 forks, brace, CBX1100 aluminum triple clamps and RD disk brake(I never liked vintage Honda brakes). 350 people will notice the added members tying in the area above the swing arm pivot to the rear down-tube. The bolt-on swing arm pivot plates were welded to the frame. All of the spot welded seams on the stamped frame members were welded up. No kick or electric start - bump only with a total loss ignition.

This was built to conform to vintage class rules, but if all you want is a track bike, you could be silly and install upside down forks, giant swing arm and big fat rims & tires( probably making the bike slower)

Sure.....if it's for pink slips! Hehe.....
looks like a fun scoot!

I know, I know, it's got a Hardley engine! But, even though it's a Sporty derived engine, it's been massaged and tweaked by Buell. The bike weighs about 400 lbs., has 102 hp at the crank, 82 ft./lb torque, and has a frame geometry based on a 250cc GP bike. It runs as good or better than a CBR600RR in the twisties. I don't think a cb 550 could touch it. ;)

I'm just having fun with you, I almost never take the Super out in anger anymore.
I got to ride a one of those the other day, kinda fun. Handled nice and once I got my head around NOT revving the motor out, just torque along it was a blast.....and ya know....I've seen a couple 180hp+ Sporty motors recently..

Before you think I'm getting too defensive, I will say that the weak link in a Buell is in fact, the engine. Once the road straightens out, that CBR is going to get real small, real fast! The Buell is a good bike, but it's not a great bike. It was fun to ride, but I'm pretty much over them. Actually, I find them kind of twitchy, but it's nothing a $400 (yikes!) GPR stabilizer can't tame. Sure you can build up the Buell engine with thousands of dollars, but in the end, you'll have a very expensive grenade between your legs. I feel Buell has taken that Sporty engine as far as it was practically able to. That's the reason Buell motors are now made by Rotax.

I'm gonna ride it a bit to show it off and then, it's off to ebay! Woo-hoo My plan is to build a '04-'06 R1 race rep with AMA (pre-rules change) engine and suspension upgrades. The big issue is if it could be sold for a profit!

Here's my old race bike ... don't race anymore and sold it a few years ago. Too expensive!
