postie bike chop

here's a pic of my C90. not quite as many of these around as posties but pretty much the same bike. i ditched the 90cc engine for a 140cc chinese copy with 4sp and a clutch. still not breaking any land speed records but at least it'll cruise at 80 with something left in reserve now!


makes the local kids smile too ;)

those tyres are really low profile. like it alot.
what are the issues with engine swaps and legalities?
 
yeah it's pretty fun for pottering round on

the tyres are super low profile although scarily not the lowest you can get. i picked them up when i was in thailand after seeing what the locals were running on their more modern version of the old cub

the engine swap needed an engineers certificate which meant noise testing etc. otherwise it was reasonably straightforward, just had to move one of the engine mounts ever so slightly so had some extra plate welded in place. a bit of a wiring rework to get it sorted for CDI too

so many go fast and trick bits from pit bikes and monkey bikes around that it's pretty easy to find anything else you need to suit the engines
 
Woah. I live in the states now but was reminded of running a glassine water out to the postie on his bike on a 40+ Adelaide day. Incidentally, around 2001 I was riding around a 71 Vespa super (probably shouldn't admit that here) that had apparently seen service as a postie bike in SA but I don't remember ever seeing them
 
Ha this thred is cool. this is a pick of my Dads postie farm bike that he decided to chop for a bit of fun

it did run and was rideable, the fuel lived in one of the copper tubes that run along the top of the frame plates
