Powder coat or polish CB450 Build!

The tank mod is very cool. Where will your vent line route to? I expected the vent tube to face foward.

Still have to make the three clips that will hold the vent line to the tank, but the line will go down the centre spine to the catch tank :)

G'day to the brotherhood of the ton ;D
Did some more on the tank today, i haven't oxy welded form some time and appart from some distortion and one burn it came out ok :p The petcock bung was the easiest and came out pretty good. In the photo you can see where the overflow line will go, down to the catch tank, also you can see the carb brace across the front of the down tube, i've noticed that not a lot of builders do this and wonder how long befor the carbs fall off ;D ;D i used 6mm threaded SS rod as i need to clamp the elect cable clamp on the down tube and it looks sorta ok, not really the factory finish i was after, might change it later to a better design ::)

Wow it's quite on this site ::) must be all out hunting rabbits ;D or just cruising the by roads, Got my new K&n today and have got'a say lov'm they worked out cheeper that the Chinese crap we get here, I had a little stouch with my local parts bloke who thinks I'm ripping the locals off by buying from overseas, but he wanted $65 Aus for the breather filter i paid $14.95 US + postage, the K&N's filters $35 US and from Aus $98.00 each   So i can't see why i should not shop around for the best deal 8) man i'm not made of $$$$ and every bit helps. So in all from the US $107 including fuel line, if i had brought them here $261  Yep my dosh went to the US ;D

I love new bits, grey fuel lines, new clips, filters, etc....... ;D

1st off the pods look KILLER! the tank looks awesome! you should do that line down the tank for the breather in brass man! would be super easy to bend and run you about 10 bucks! i LOVE this bike!

That does look really good! I agree with Joe: Run a copper tube down the tank as a breather and it will look great. Polished aluminum would look good as well.

Hadn't thought about brass :) i'll give the idea some thought, I'll have to remove the breather and clips, and the brass is sort of gold in colour mmmmm

Anyway thanks for the support, the K&N's are great and with a lifetime warranty, got'a be happy with that although my wife reckons they look like two angry nipples ;D ;D

Mmmmmm fresh powder :D the guard is stainless steel and the black part is under the bike, i didn't want to draw attention to it, i also did under the guard as this will make cleaning it easer later on ;D

I also think braided stainless with aircraft fittings would look cool for the breather line and give a good "mechanical/industrial/race" look.

now you are thinking like me! that pow pow looks great!

Yeah sound good to me ;D but for now i'll keep going and just get it finished and on the road, fuel line etc are easy to change later, I just want to ride the scoot "yesterday" and i've got heaps to do so going back over something is like going backwards, it should have a factory like finish (except for the pods) and be easy to register ::) ::)

Looking hot Zondaman :)
If you don't mind me asking - did you sandblast the fender?

Hey thanks for the encouragement "Ton Brothers" ;D ;D got'a keep going, I've seen to many projects languish in the corner never to be finished and i have one that's doing just that :-[ so this scoot IS going to be finished ;D the good thing is like Joe i've got a wife that loves the bike and wants to see it finished as much as i do :D.
Spyderman the rear guard was scrubbed clean (hot soapy water) to within an inch of its life then cleaned again with nitric acid (10%) then the rear part was polished and masked off and then the rest was wiped down with solvent/thinner and then powder coated.

That's a great idea too! But i dunno if it fits with the design language he's going for. Yeah, though, weld in a bung and thread in a 90 degree AN fitting...

Where did you find your finned points cover? I've been looking for a while and already have the stator cover.

Aaaahhh  started on the rear wheel today, as i had everything need to fit it up only to find that i somehow mixed up the hub for a 450K0 or CB77 hub (i have a few in my stash), yep different enough  don't know how ??? but i had to remove the tire strip the spokes, bearings etc and start again, correct hub sitting on the bench ready for a rebuild on the weekend (once powder coated).
