I have a frame and swing arm that I need powder coated. Does anyone have any shops they have used in the GTA, Kitchener,London area? How much to get stuff powder coated, approximately.

I paid $225 for a frame, two swingarms, bunch of small brackets and two rear brake stay arms. I took the parts in dirty. They blasted, prepped, masked and coated for me. This was all glossy black. Other colors, of which they have a good number, may cost a bit more but probably not much.

Quality seems top notch. They're an industrial outfit. They knew which parts to mask etc - I didn't tell them anything.

Here are the pics - they're on page 6 of my project thread.

I think it was just a few days. Pretty quick. What color are you going to do? If gloss black, I have a couple of swingarms I might put in your pile :) Might save us both a bit of money.

black, same as your parts.

I have some welding and probably some grinding to do in the next couple of weeks and I'll be ready for powder coat. If you are not in a super rush I will let you know when I am ready .

No rush at all - I'm not using the parts anytime soon, but want to get them coated just so they're done. I'm only about 15 minutes from the powdercoaters place so I can be there pretty easily. They open early too - 7:30 I think. Will give me a chance to get some more parts together that I might want done. The more the merrier (and lower per peice price too I think).

Don't know yet if I want to go the powder coat route. Been toying with the idea, but can't justify spending a few hundred to do it when I have a big can of paint sitting downstairs already. I would have the frame, swinger and lower tree, and thats it. Still have welding and grinding to do on it though. Will likely be one of the last things I do. Do you have any idea what it would cost with the three of us? Maybe we could find a few more and really make it worth while. What about the sticker on the front with the VIN? Do they tape that off and keep it, or just blast away and it's gone?

Well, on my XS650 frame there wasn't any label/tag (at least that I recall) and the stamped VIN on the steering tube is pretty obscured now. You can make out a few of the letters etc...

The only time the ownership is checked against the frame VIN is when you have it safetied, so as long as someone friendly who understands does the safety, then I'm good.

There are a lot of other reasons to not pass safety which I might have to deal with - chainguard, inner fender, front fender... all of which can be put on temporarily one way or another.

Yeah, I plan on doing the same thing when I get it safetied. Kinda one of the reasons I don't want to get powdercoated too, as I want to chop all the mounts off and stuff. I guess I could always zip tie everything on, but the guy doing the safety might have a few things to say about that. I've seen guys re-make the labels to better than new. Not really illegal or anything since you're not changing the VIN. I'll see in a little while and make a firm decision whether to go powder or not.
