Powdercoating spoke wheels

So this maybe a n00b question, but i'm a n00b so here it goes. I want to powder coat my cb750 spoked wheels black but I wasn't sure the best way. Can I powdercoat the wheel as a whole? or do i need to remove all the spokes and have the spokes/nipples powdercoated seperately, or i can i purchase already black spokes and nipples for my wheels and just powdercoat the rim??

let me know because i want to start this in the next week or so!

are there black spokes available to purchase somewhere? ive looked around and nothing.. i'd rather buy ones already done, and lace new ones into the hub and rim
 
I think Ive seen them, but honestly cant remember where or when. Do you just want the spokes to be black?
 
Well, you would still need to COMPLETELY disassemble the wheels anyway. If your spokes are in good shape, it'll be cheaper to just have everything PCd at once than it would be to replace the spokes and have the rest coated.
 
yeah i think thats what i'm going to do, pull them apart and have them all powdercoated seperately.. i'll post completed pictures when it's done!
 
dropping wheels off on monday to get powdercoated, all de-spoked and ready to go. will post pics when i get it back. rim and spokes/nipples will be powdercoated.
 
you can coat the whole wheel but it can not be trued again... i would sugest you true it first then coat hte whole thing... but the right way is to tear them down. i do this both ways on a daily basis... you thought of doing flat on the rims and hubs and gloss spokes/nipples? be sure the coater maske the threads aon the nipples and spokes

i love the black and red, they look sick!! was that set done as a whole, or was it taken apart, coated and re assembled? good work man!
 
the red and black where shot ass a whole... i did stick them on a trueing stand to bet them buttoned in right so that it would take very little weight to balance them... but he wanted to save some $ so we shot them as a whole..

what do you charge for the powdercoating? a local shop quoted me 75-80 per wheel as a whole does that seem reasonable?
 
that is insane cheap! we are 100 per wheel for a solid color. may want to look over their work firt at that price and be sure they are a ligit deal not a garage
 
i will add that on his wheels they where in rough rough shape, so we laid down a primer first , blocked that out to smoooth everything out... then coated it... it is an additional $40 per wheel for stripes

that price seems to be the average rate between 5 places i called. this is the place i think im going to use.

still havent decided my whole color theme, so i'm not sure if i want to do the whole wheel in black or just the rim.. big decisions.
 
Those wheels look glorious sir!
There isn't a chance in hell I could afford a power job, so I'm gonna opt for good ol' sanding and Rustoleum Epoxy Appliance paint.
Doesn't get as thick/hard as a powder, but I've seen some jobs done right with it and they've held.
 
ooh ya i did a write up on how to prep, mask, and shoot wheels in appliance epoxy a year or two ago. it is on here somewhere
