I'm trying to pull my chain to clean... cant get chain off, bikes in first gear, I am turning the engine over with a 8" ratchet... Help!

For now will move on to removing rotor to clean and map holes to be drilled.

Thanks!

sounds like a substandard model ;D,,,,find tdc reverse rotation pull the spark plug,,feed in some rope, rotate to compress the rope in the combustion chamber so it locks the motor,,this was an old trick to remove clutches and flywheels from snowmobiles,,,,,good luck

Roll a wrench between the chain and the rear sprocket....rather fuck up a tooth on a $30 sprocket than bend a valve.

Roger that, I'l try a block of wood instead.

ummmm, CW or CCW?

Got it, CCW, with a small hammer handle in there. Just the trick.

If you mean drive sprocket nut...Have a friend hold your rear brake, put your breaker bar on it and whack the handle with a hammer. Or borrow a friends or neighbors impact driver.

You HAVE to get a impact driver (not an air wrench). Ive had a cheepo (under $20) for years. It is a must for anybody that works on old motorcycles. No. Im not preaching.

And if your trying to get your CHAIN off......why not take the master link out? If it is rivited youll have to take your swingarm off too. In that case....clean it while its on the bike. Trust me.

that would have been nice except for all purposes, there is no back wheel on the bike now. I looked for the master link, couldn't find it... probably all riveted together. And I just found where a nice big oil leak was coming from... Woot...

And even the swing arm wasn't bolted on.

Did you end up getting the sprocket off or not? If the masterlink is a rivet type you are going to have to cut it anyway and get a new link.
