Pro Builders Running Stock Carbs With Pods - Opinions?

Sorry, I sould have been a bit moe elaborate: There are countless poosts here and elsewhere that pods don't work on X-bike. Just google SOHC + Pods. I've been told many times that especially SOHC's (it's always the bike you're working on...) just won't run properly with pods.

I was told to switch the carbs for the carbs of a DOHC because those do run with pods.

So in short: don't believe what everybody is telling yo because everybody told them it's true ;)

So true. A person has to educate themselves. I learned back when I was circle tracking that
sometimes you have to think outside the box. To go a step beyond to see a negative result
to confirm the best solution.

So true. You have to push the limits to find out where they are.

Like with painting. If you don't get a run once in a while, you are probably not applying enough paint to flow out nicely. You have apply paint just short of running, but you won't know where that point is until you exceed it.

I think you got your "S"s and "D"s swapped around... the older stlye slide carbs on the Single Over Head Cam engines fair better than the later Vacuum piston Dual Over Head Cammers

Did I?

I can go on like this for ages. Just google SOHC + pod filters

Yes, you did.

Typically, Slide piston carbs, such as are found on SOHC4's (except for the last 2(?) years of the cb650) fare better with pods than the vacuum carbs found on the DOHC's.

^ That is my thinking as well... Maybe safe to say "neither" then huh... ::)
Over on www.CB750C.com you be thrashed, shunned, flamed, even drawn and quartered if you ask a question pertaining to pod filters on the DOHC 750's.

Good stuff Miob, man I love your BMW, esp with the old tank. Im building an R80 right now that I just bought. Asking some questions from the purists over on ADV on the carbs and such and they are tough, if you dont run it stock they are all over you in such a negative way. my bike has pods on it and i like the look and it seams to run pretty good too. Anyway i like the CB they are just classic and they always will be.

Miob asked a question, didn't like the answer, so posted a bunch of links that don't support what he wants them to, and in some cases refute it outright.

Miob, again:

Regular slide-piston carbs generally fare better with pods than the later CV carbs.

That means you have a better chance of being successful with a SOHC4 and pods than a DOHC4 with pods.

That means you have a better chance of being successful with pods on any slide-piston carb than any CV carb.

Got it?

Sorry, but I did nit ask any questions, you may want to reread the topic. I just wanted to say that you should not believe everything you read on the internet. Especially stories about oil/filters/fuel additives/tuning tend to get a life on their own.

The internet says pods don't work on a SOHC and apparently neither on a DOHC. I know the first thing to be not true so I have doubt believing the latter.

So I wonder why I deserve a 'got it', maybe I am reading that wrong, but it seems kind of rude.

Thank you. ADV-members can be a tough crowd, but there is a lot of knowledge there. But yes, the BMW runs very, very well with the stacks. Just take your time finetuning them and you won't regret it. Mine (1000cc) will do 'powerwheelies' with them (the '' is because you can't really call them wheelies since it get's the wheel only just off the ground)

Oh, sorry bud, been a while since I looked at this thread, thought you were the OP.

Anyway, yeah, pods generally do not work very well without a lot of work. They work much bette ron slide piston carbs than CV carbs, though.

Again, sorry about that mix up on who posted the thread.

No worries :)

I was just giving an example of the internet stories of something not working while it does work for me :)
