Project Carbon CB

learning curve? what learning curve?
soooooo, I was given a 1975 cb750k by my little brother for my 40th birthday. Hes a lifelong biker and knows that I havent had my ass on a bike in about 25 years or so. but he knows I do love a project and do need a midlife crisis machine. This bike is a bit of a mess though. My wife washed her hands twice after just looking at it, I cant call it a basket case because noone had a basket they wanted to get that dirty. It hasnt run in a loooong time and seems to have been leaning against a barn for more than a decade. I do love a challenge.

so the plan is to do a modern naked superbike. Im cutting and restructuring the rear of the frame. molding the tank and seat from carbon fiber. carbon valve cover and side covers too. no visible guages, clipons etc. I want people to not know what the hell it is and be suprised to find out how old the old girl is. I'll put up some before pics and what Ive already done as soon as I can figure out the posting issue.....it doesnt seem to want to let me.

Subscribed! This thread may give me the motivation to so some fiberglass work in the future. POST SOME PICS ALREADY! You need to know this place thrives off of pics good or bad ones.

is there a trick to posting pics?, do I have to user an outside server or something?

It helps if you have a photo hosting site. I use photobucket. It gives you the link for easy coping and pasting in the reply box.
<---example. It's pretty easy.

Ill take some new ones as soon as i can and get em up, along with a rendering of what im looking to accomplish with the build.

One carefull owner, never raced or dragged...........

Will be interested in seeing your carbon work, was only thinking about carbon wrapping some stuff myself today.

Good luck with the build, love a SOHC 750 Honda.

me too, when it was given to me he offered an 81 or a 75....i think the dohc is an ugly engine. although the 81 was ridable.....maybe I made a mistake.....

so Im bending tube this weekend, unfortunately my bender wont do 180 degrees (took a few pieces of wasted 120 wall seamless to confirm that) so im doing 90s and a bit more welding. have to fill the tube with sand to avoid wrinkles with my crappy harbor freight pipe bender but we do what we must with a budget like mine.
ill try to get in to get a tank of gas for my little tig welder this week too, then I can see if I can make a frame out of this tubing and parts. woohoo.....
Also having problems with carbs, sent them off to oldschoolcarbs to be rebuilt, mail squished the box, broke my linkage and etc. so if anyone has a rebuildable set of sohc carbs they can part with suuuuper cheap lemme know.

Wow you work fast haha. Nice looking project. You must have one cool brother for him to have given you a motorcycle for a bday present. Good luck with your bike!

so this is the plan for a few mods.
bi-xenon headlight
ducati style front fender
swingarm mounted rear fender
custom rearsets
custom stainless exhaust
4 into 1 under the motor then either out the right side or up and out under the seat like a modern superbike.
oil tank in gas tank molded after a ducati 1098 tank
helmet mounted wireless speedo
dual crossdrilled front brakes
clipons with modern adjustable levers and custom lighting controls with bar end signals
hidden ignition, kick only
led tail light split with builtin signals (no external signals front or rear)
lots of carbon fiber
gas/oiltank
both fenders
seat
tripletree top
headlight shroud
valve cover
engine side covers
tie rod (rear brake)
muffler
helmet
all switch brackets.
this may be a bit excessive on the carbon fiber....but that is the name of the bike right?.
as of now the plan is a lime green frame (al la loaded guns "triton") , but i have been known to change my mind

Oh and by the way. Any chance you you want to trade your brother for mine? Jeez, a frickin motorcycle for a birthday present.
