ditto. i keep seeing LED lights on flatbeds and cargo trucks that i think would be ideal.
Chris, forgive my ignorance, but when is your brother's birthday? Better yet, how in the world are you keeping this a secret? especially with all the internet posting and what not.
His birthday is April 10th. He owns a boutique resturant and works 60-80 hour weeks. There is no way he's finding this website or this project blog. If I blogged it on my website, he would certainly see it.
BTW, the seat I made would fit the trailer LED lights. I don't really like them though. This taillight has two LED bulbs inside.
I took a few minutes to dress the visible welds on the seat. First, I squared them off with a orange Roloc. Then, I sanded them round with a green Roloc. Since I’m going to polish the surface, I needed to sand the whole thing. So I scrubbed it with an orange 3M scouring pad (I love these things). This gave it around a 400 grit finish. Right now, I’m going back over the seams by hand to make sure they are perfectly smooth (Thank God that Kit showed me how to properly sand. Otherwise, I’d be at this for days and would still screw it up). Then it’s on to 600 grit, followed by 1200 grit and a mild polish to match the tank.
BTW, I will never produce these seats. There is just way too much labor involved to make it worth while. Maybe I'll do it in GRP if people like the shape.
Looks nice Chris! Should turn out really well. I'd love to make an aluminum seat. Maybe some day.
I'll agree with you, making a seat is a LOT of work, whatever you make it out of. But the first one always takes the longest because you're learning as you go. I found that finishing takes about 3/4 of the total amount of time.
Now, if I can only get my brothers to buy me a bike for my birthday...... hmmm, a KZ1300 for $750. My birthday is in two days, do you think it's too close? Lol!

yeah, ditto on the adoption thing. i guess my brother will probably be putting in some serious hours when(if) i ever get started.
thanks to having mechanically inclined family members.
cant wait to see this bike finished. i will def be using some things from your build.
OK, last update before I leave on a week's vacation. I've entered into the fuck-it/will it embarass me mode. If it won't embarass me, I let it go. Time is really winding down on this project.
This is the finished seat all polished it out. It is by no means perfect, but it doesn't embarass me either. It is what it is.
Yeah you're making me feel bad about my lack of progress, I pushed loudbike back out into the garage the other day though. Drained the carbs and was ready to put in some fresh gas and give it another go, but then I got sidetracked by hardware and the whole thing ended up covered in blue tape... and it still doesn't have a headlight (Dr.j )
Let me know when you're back from your' trip and if I can help out with any of your' projects.
