Just read this whole thread ( twice ) and picked up a few good ideas. Hope you dont mind if I steal some of them.
I'm also a diesel mechanic, coming up on 20 years w/ kenworth.
Coming along great Thompson... and don't listen to Twisted, he's an ass! Your mirrors look fine dude. The bike is really starting to show its shape now. Keep it up bro.
The mirrors don't bother me much. They kind of fit with the rest of the front end on that bike. The main reason I'm rocking bar end mirrors is the stock mount position would interfere with the fairing I'm installing. I do think I'll like having the mirrors further out on the bars though so I don't have to tuck in to see behind me.
Thanks for the comments guys I appreciate all the kind words.
Gary go ahead and steal as many ideas as you want thats why I put them out there.
Deviant thanks the whole front end is gonna kinda look retro to kinda tone down the street fighter look of the suspension.
Noah thanks too i really like the direction its heading. I've been selling parts for the bikes that I'm not gonna use so I can hopefully get an engine put together then its wiring and then I should be ready for paint and rocking.
Thanks again guys and hopefully things will keep moving forward.
Damn good thing GO! organized the threads so I can find my own. Alright I am going to buy some stainless brake lines and I dont know what color to go with. my choices are red black silver and blue. Now i have quite a bit of polish on this bike so I could see the silver ones working. But I also have a lot of black and I think it would match nicely with the speedo cable and blend in with the forks and the swinger. I want to paint the tins red. so i could see the red working but maybe less than the silver or black. Just kinda wanted some opinions. I'll have some pics later this week of some parts.

I was thinking, with red tins (even though I am sure the reds won't match) the red lines may look cool! You dont really see too many guys using anything but black and silver. Step outside of the norm, try the red! I think it will give you an edge in the "little details" factor! You can also get some of the dress up kits from JC whitney and summit racing catalogs for cars that you may be able to use on other line to tie it all in. cove the vacume tubes, fuel line, and hell, you could even use it as wire loom!
Yeah, I was thinking natural as well for the brake lines. I haven't seen many colored brake lines and I can't imagine it would look very good. Seems almost clownish to me... Like the old multicolored leather Malcom X jackets. But maybe it would look cool too. What do i know?
Well I'm thinking the silver ones would look best. I believe I had a set of red ones on db once and they looked like crap after a bit. So silver it is unless anyone else has something to suggest I'm gonna measure them up and order them tonite hopefully. I am going with the custom ones that can be bought off ebay.
I ordered up my lines I hope they come out right two of them are simple but the one could be put together wrong. So i sent them an additional message. Should be pretty cool I got my gauge today and I hope to have my headlight tomorrow. Then some work can get done. I want to get my brake lines so i can get the brakes operational so I can at least roll down the hill in my driveway. ;D
Wooo! Parts! That means progress! C'mon parts! Now don't go drilling any cast pieces or I'm going to have to direct people to your thread to flame the hell out of you!
fair enough. ;D Although I think the gauge pod and the headlight bucket needs some lightening. And nothing is lighter than a hole. And a big hell yeah to progress. I still need to locat some cases then I will probably send them to Joe for powder. Then its wiring then its riding time Yay
Well the case that came with the 85 were broken the po slung a chain and broke the shift shaft. which broke a piece out of the case. So i bought the 82 thinking they would fit in my chassis well they didn't ( blowing the minds of everyone on KZR) I had modified the cases to fit the frame. Well in doing so i got rid of the rubber mounts. I painted them then went to assemble and found a plug got stuck trying to insert it. Leading me to I still had glass bead in my cases. After cleaning for three days. I just dont want to assemble an engine to have it blow up. So now i want new cases to have someone else clean strip and powder. Plus I want them to fit properly. I made the ones I have fit but I dont have a machine shop so things aren't perfect.
Any idea what years will fit Thompson? I have a few hook ups and I'll see what I can come up with. Also, are the 750 bottom cases the same as some of the other displacement GPZs? Just gathering info. I may be able to help you out.
It seems when they went from calling the 750 a kz to a gpz they changed the cases a little. The rear lower mount on the gpz is narrower than the kz and so is the front mount. There are some other small differences. I do not believe the gpz 900 cases are the same. I believe that was a new engine when they came out with it. The 1100 is based off the kz 1000 which is different too. Same with the 550 its a different beast too. Thanks kiley if you have any connections let me know I appreciate you putting a feeler out there for me. Let me know if you come up with anything. The ones i'm looking for are the 83-85 gpz 750 cases. has to be a matching pair as they are line bored a the crank.
