"Project Dark Knight" (77' GS 750B)

"If we can't find a way, we will make one!"
Hey Guys, I just wanted to post some pics (sorry for the crappy angles) of my 1977 Suzuki GS 750...From the looks of it, not that many people have modded the GS series (compared to the CBs) which leads me to believe that this will be a difficult build (in terms of obtaining plenty of parts and advice). However, this can hopefully lead to one unique project that will not be your average Honda bike (no offense). Don't get me wrong, I really wanted a CB750, but somehow my GS has grown on me. Anyways, without further delay, my GS 750!!!

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

Looks really clean, man. It's things you have to work for that will be great!

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

Thanks Hohokam, I paid the extra cash (rather than pay for a cheap junker) to get a bike in "good condition"...And you are right, I gotta work hard to build a great project!!!

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

I have a GS too. There are aftermarket parts available for these bikes. You should check out thegsresources.com.

You can also check out my GS450 in my sig.

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

I've got a GS. There are just tons of CBs around because so many were sold. You'll love it and it will be a great bike for you. They're easy to work with and that model will look fantastic. Check out coastiepete's GS 750 on PNWriders.com. I don't have the exact link and I'm on my mobile but it's worth checking out.

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

I'm looking forward to following this. I have a 77 GS750 that i'm cafe-ing right now. I'm pretty new to this site, & was thinking about starting a thread. Ive had one going on gsresources.com for a bit now. Good Luck

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

Nice GS! Mine's newer (82) but in much rougher shape-your bike looks great. I'll look forward to seeing what you do with her...what are your plans?

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

Another gs750 guy here, tell me about your air filters! i run uni pods but lookin for something different

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

Hey Guys, its nice to see other GS members on this forum, so this gives me plenty of hope! Anyways, I really don't know where to begin my project, but the first thing I want to do is ditch those ugly bars for some drag bars or even M bars. I thought about clubmans or clip-ons, but it would look odd on my stock bike. Anyways, I 'm thinking about making the seat into a one-seater cafe style, but that would mean I have to cut the frame, etc...I just haven't brought myself to cutting the frame of a perfectly good bike at the moment (sorry for the hesitation). However, I would like to keep the 2 seats (for the ladies) and maybe fabricate some sort of faux bum-stop to cover the passenger part when not in use, kinda like the Triumph Thruxton. I'm a real big fan of British bikes, especially Triumph, but I also love the look of the Ducati GTs, so here are some of my inspiration I guess...

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

To 8barreldart- Hey man, I almost forgot to answer your question...Anyways, those air filters were there from the previous owner and I have no idea what brand they are or anything...However, each filter pod is connected to 2 of the carbs, so 2 air filters in all...It seems to give the motor a little more air then stock, but I think my motor needs to be rejetted because of it...I'll keep you posted on the brand and specs when I get a good look at it. At the moment, my bike is sitting in my buddies garage because I don't have the space and my family doesn't know about it ;) (they hate motorcycles)...

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

8barreldart, I run the stock airbox and filter on mine...so I'm afraid I can't be much help there.

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

Sorry for slacking on this thread. but I've been busy with finishing up school and finally graduating from college. Anyways, here is the update...First, I don't plan on immediately doing drastic changes on my bike, but I would like to clean up the look. I'm planning on changing the handle bars, but I'm not exactly sure what I wanna get yet. If any of you guys have suggestions then please let me know. I'm also planning on changing or removing the stock turn signals because they are a little to big and slightly bent. I feel this would immediately clean up the bike cosmetically. Internally, I possibly need to take apart the carbs and clean them up because I seem to be having problems with my idle. The bike seems to idle pretty rough on the right side, so I'm thinking those carbs are either, dirty, need to be rejetted, or not synced with the other carbs or possible all of these problems. Hopefully this would solve my idling problems as well as running a little too rich...

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

First off, congrats on graduating!

If you don't have any rear sets, I would stay away from clip ons and clubmans. It can be a bit hunched over. The other problem is the general width of GS tanks- low bars tend to bump into the tank. Could try drag bars or maybe some euro bars?

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

If nothing else, you gotta love those mags. This thing has plenty of potential.

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

Hey fellow Gs owner! I would like to ask you those mags are stock? and congratulation for the mint bike just be careful with anything electric related!
I you need a specific part of the 1977 gs 750 maintenance book just send me a pm

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

Hey Guys, thanks for the compliments and thank you Big Rich...Anyways those wheels are not stock and I have no idea where they came from. However, I do have the original spoke wheels, but in rough condition, so I'm definitely keeping the mags...Thanks again Jeunemotard, I will keep that in mind!!!

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

As for the bars, I had clubmans on mine for a while-they looked great, and were only inconvenient trying to make tight turns in parking lots and such, since they bump the tank. Also not that comfortable with the stock foot controls, but the handling is great, since you're practically laying on the tank-so really, whatever works for you. Currently running superbike bars hidden behind a quarter fairing-looks good, and not too extreme a riding position. I imagine drag bars would look even more "cafe-ish" than the superbike bars, if that's what you're going for. It takes all of 20 minutes to swap bars, and you can get a set of clubmans, drag bars, or superbike bars for $20, so it's not too hard to play with different styles until you decide.

Re: "Oh no!!! Not another GS 750 project!!!"

I finally decided to revive this project... ;D Here is the stripped down version...

What size are the mags? I cant see the pics on my phone unfortunatly, but if youre 100% sure that they arent Suzuki wheels, it would be in your best interest to figure out just what they are. 70s era, aftermarket mags can fetch insanely high prices.

VonYinzer I have the exact same mags and I think they are stock, my bike was imported from the states and it's 1977 b gs750
