Project "Fat Man" -- XS1100 redux w/pics

Thanks!

Painted the seat, installed the clip-ons, and added a temporary brake/plate light.

-The tubing on the clip-ons is too thick for my Emgo bar ends. Probably gonna cut up a spare set of drag bars and use those instead of the supplied tubes.
-Been having a lot of trouble finding the brake light I need. I'm looking for a circular flush/flange mount trailer light that's 2.5-2.75" in diameter. The only issue is finding one that's 3 wire with a red lens for a reasonable price.
-Gotta redo my seat mount and make it sturdier.
-Thinking about ordering the Roc City seat pad for the Interceptor seat. I rode 60 miles yesterday and my ass still hurts lol.

How she sits right now:

I've never really been complimented on my bike before. There have been a few folks here and there who have stopped to talk but I've never been told it looked cool... until yesterday when three different people took interest in it during my mini road trip. It's shaping up!

Here's a pic from the front.

Also, does anyone know what kind of bolts I should be using for my exhaust/cam chain tensioner and where to get them? Been using 12.9 hardware store bolts temporarily but don't feel too good about it. What should I be using?

Thanks!

Been doing a lot of riding the past few days and have had no problems at all (knock on wood). Rode to New Hope, PA (70 mile round trip) last night and pegged the speedo on 202. Also rode to Valley Forge this afternoon before the storms hit. Here are some pics:

The other bike is my friend's HD Nightster. Totally my kind of bike as I've always had a taste for Sportster bobbers. But alas, the STRUGGLE IS REAL because I definitely don't have HD money. But I'm happy with my cow, she has more character.

Bunch of parts are ordered/in the mail...
-ARP stainless exhaust bolts to replace my hardware store ones (for peace of mind)
-Round flange mount trailer light (2.5", 3-wire, 9 LEDs)... cost $24 for 2 which isn't horrible
-Emgo "broomstick" drag bars to cut up and put in clip ons (that way I can put my bar end mirrors back on)
-Roc City Interceptor seat pad... bit the bullet and paid $150 for it. I'd rather spend more time on the road than dicking around trying to make a reasonable looking seat pad. And my upholstery skills suck. Not sure how long it's gonna take to get to my door (my bum needs it asap).

My checklist...
-New plugs from auto parts store
-Recheck float height
-Readjust idle screws
-Lower idle
-Replace cracking rubber caps on carb boots w/vinyl ones
-Rebuild or replace right petcock (feels tough, spring washer is split)
-Repaint final drive, calipers, master cylinder, triple tree, sleeves, valve cover, etc. in low gloss black

Trying to get everything together for the swap meet in Blue Bell with as little down time as possible. I've been to it before, lots of cool stuff.

Update time!!!

Got a bunch of work done but still have a long way to go.

--Redid my seat mount to make it sturdier.
--Installed the Roc City seat pad. Not 100% satisfied with it but my ass is thankful. I don't like how the back of the pad meets the hump (visible creases in the cover) and the cover is kinda loose in some spots. Probably gonna email RCC and see if they can do anything about it. If not I'll end up modding it myself.
--Installed new clip on tubes that my bar ends actually fit in! I took some Emgo "Broomstick" bars and cut them up with a pipe cutter, smoothed with a grinder, and stuck them in the clip on fork brackets.
-- Installed the new tail light. Has 9 LEDs and is much brighter than the crappy ebay piece it replaced.
--Trimmed and repainted the bottom of the interceptor seat pan under the tail light. Gives the rear wheel more clearance.
--Added stainless washers above the rear shock bump stops to effectively reduce shock travel. Now there's no chance of the rear wheel contacting the seat pan, even if I bottom out (VERY unlikely). I'd like to replace the rear shocks with something better eventually to go with the progressive springs up front, but I'm broke so that's not happening any time soon.
--Made a plate mount out of the old tail light bracket and stock XS1100 plate light. Had to do some bending/drilling but I think it turned out nicely.
--Repainted the triple tree with bedliner paint. The flat black/textured finish matches the lower tree.
--Repainted the final drive in low gloss black to match the frame (less noticeable).
--Reinstalled the plastic inner fender to keep grime off of my ammo battery box! Was getting oil spots on the back of it and the pods were filthy.
--Repainted front master cylinder because the paint was eaten up by brake fluid. I want to do the calipers too.

Still have a bunch of other things I'm working on (mainly fit and finish) but the bike is getting very close to what I'm going for.

Haven't done much to the bike other than maintenance and riding. I'm happy with it.
I did swap the speedo out for a 140mph one I got for $5 at a swap meet. I think it was from an XS650.

Getting the bike up and running again for the coming season. Didn't get to do as much riding as I would've liked last year because of a rotator cuff injury. Hoping all is well now... fingers crossed.

I found the elusive Mike's XS650 Standard seat on eBay and couldn't resist. Long trips on the thin Roc City pad were brutal. Tons of foam on the new one, my azz will be grateful.

I want to paint the chrome strip on the seat black along with some other repainting and touching up. Have a new tank with no dents I need to line and put on as well. If anyone knows where I can get some high quality gaiters please let me know! I really like the look of the dime city ones on there currently but they fall apart in less than a year.

if you can get one of these to work rancho makes some of the toughest S!@T on the planet
