Been Around the Block
I have been away from this group and have trully missed it. My CB550 is still in boxes 600km away from me. Now I take on this little girl and who knows where it takes me! But I am back to the DTT world once again.

Well I stumbled across this little beauty in the great white north. Got the bike for a steep deliverd price of $700. Needs rear wheel bearing, handlebars and turn signals as the bearing failed last year when PO was in a turn and he slid it a little bit. Got it delivered this evening and now I start the hunt for parts and my plan isn't to have this bike for long, but get it road worthy and cert and sell it. I think. I haven't been on a bike in 2 years so getting on this 650 makes me a little nervous. but who knows. For now plan is to start her up tomorrow and go from there

Haven't done anything to the bike yet. but here she is!

Nice. Looks like a fun ride. I'm sure you've seen that Cafe CX500 that's all over Instagram and various Cafe Facebook pages? Really slick stuff.... I'm really curious about that CX engine. Never worked on a driveshaft driven bike before.

I like the V engine config, CXs can end up looking brutish, hard as nails.

Getting it running is a good first move as well as riding it a bit to build your confidence.

CX's make the best cafes. They are a bit of a gift.
There are some stunning examples on the net as you probs know anyway.
It's crazy how a stock bike that looks so f'ugly can look so cool with very simple and straight forward bolt on mods.
And fair play, yours is particularly ugly :)

that is past due for a quad bypass and i dont see where the engine has been split before so it will be up to you

but hey are a great bike i have quite a few 650s and love them

kamn has a few to

Little 6am update. Had some issues starting it last night. hooked it up to my charger and took the starter button apart... saw a wire was barely attached to the kill switch so today I will try to straighten that out and temperature pending I will try firing it up. CXman... not sure if I will tear the engine apart... dont really have the technical skills at this point to do it all myself. but who knows again. I will definitely try to get it up and running prior to any surgery

if you hear any weird snapping rattling noises at idle or above out of the rear cover just shut it off

My streak of night shifts is over and I got back to the bike today. Put on new ( donated from a friend) bars, started it up, stripped all the awful rear light bits, cut the support for the second seat off and started to plan my look.

Stock parts I would like to keep and use:
1. Seat pan. I will end up taking off the foam for the second and make it a Solo seat.

2. Side covers. I want to keep these and use them in conjunction with the seat. Just have to figure out how to rig up the stock tail section as the bike is a fair amount shorter now.

3. Tail fin. Id also like to keep this and make it into a seat hump kind of as the pics below show. Also it would give me a place to keep my all in one tail light.

Now I have to find LED signals and a tail light. If you guys have any kicking around for sale let me know. Id rather support a fellow DTTer than some random on ebay.
