Thanks man.

Honestly, It looks good in person, but you're right, it's not a pro job. I am someone who will never pay anyone to do something until I try it myself. It's not so much a money issue, but more so a self determination issue. I may indeed get a pro job done at some point. For now I'm proud of my work!

Thanks for the compliments. You're right, the emblem debate is what got those onto the bike. Oh and BTW, thank you for the offer on the seat bro!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

WoW! This build totally opens the door to the new possibilities of these bikes.
I'd love to see some of the faces on the street, when you put Gretta on the road. ;D ??? 8)
Great stuff!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Haha!

Thanks Peter! I must say, I freakin LOVE the color scheme on your bike that you posted too man. CB360s FTW!!!!!

I appreciate the props man!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Looks good. You did a pretty good job on that seat. I'd rock it too, heck i'd rock one that looked worse. I wouldn't want to pay someone to cover it when I can so either. Keep it up.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I have to admit, I was not a fan of the first seat pad at all. But I dont know how to sew, and wouldnt have had anything constructive to add, so I just kept my mouth shut. That being said, Im happy you took another swing at it, I think this looks much much better. Seriously when I unexpectedly saw the new seat a big smile came across my face.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

holy hell...

this bike is so sexy that even my girlfriend creamed her panties.

Haha. Awesome

And Boom, I never liked it either. The new one isn't a pro job, but it's subdues, and honestly, I like it a lot. I'm happy with the way it turned out. It's super comfortable too. Far from perfect, but it I brought my wife to check it out, and she asked me who I payed to do it, so that told me that to the untrained eye, it's not bad at all ;).

And never hold back on the opinions bro, they really do help me. Thanks for the compliments.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

We're cut from the same cloth on that front my friend. I didn't mean to be a wet blanket, just with the history of the debate on this thread I thought I'd be blunt. I do understand that the flash is not your friend on this stuff. keep up the great work.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Shit! had more to say but hit post by accident.

Your second pass at the seat was SO much better than the first the next one would also be exponentially better. keep going. I'm doing the same thing and they keep getting better. There are plenty of tacky leather jackets that need a home!!!

Oh man! No offense taken brother! You're absolutely right! I really really value your opinion on this whole thing because you are being a DIYer as well. Man, never hold back what you think dude. your eye will catch my flaws because I'm sure you have made the same ones before. But hell, I remembered how much I liked sewing today. It's been a blast!

Thanks for your thoughts Diesel!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

+1 on the seat
+1 on 360's

Even though I really want you to finish this thing so we can all see it on the streets...I don't really want the updates to end! You always come up with great stuff!

Can't wait til the end...but I can...

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

That bike truly is nice on the eyes, and I'm right there with you on doing things myself. Mostly because if I screw it up it's a learning experience for me and I haven't wasted any money. I came from a single mom family so cash was always tight, now I have the capabilities to pay someone else to do it, I can't bring myself to.

The ribs look awesome in that seat and like you said to the untrained eye or to us that have seen your earlier mock-ups, no one else but you will know.

Great work and those emblems are really setting off the look completely.

Jay

Killer job on those emblems Kiley. Fantastic execution. They just pop right out there. Really fit the bike well. Headlight should do a good Job of lighting up the runway for take offs and landings ;D. Looks sweet. I'm like the others and hate for the day when the updates end. The trade off will be some hero video so I guess I'm stoked about that. The seat is so close. It does look much better than before. I agree with Diesel, everytime you do something it gets better. At this point Gretta is a work of art and she deserves nothing but the best! I'm loving it brother. Gretta Rocks! When you get her done you should consider having some studio shots done. In fact, iF she makes it here in July I can get my friends studio ;)

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I'm just speechless on the flow of the bike, long and lean. It really looks great. The seat looks good, but like I said the rest of the bike looks great.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

looking great! The second seat, head and shoulders above the Firstt. If you could get more definition in the ribs it would be perfect. The tuck and roll look, but you need a strong machine to do that. I tried and my sewing machine shit the bed on me.

Like the emblems too. I think the wing emblems inside are a cool idea, I would make them a different color to have them pop a bit more though.

Love this Bike man, almost riding time.

One way to get a more defined rib with a cheap machine is to cut strips and then sew them together. I did this with my R5 seat and it does give you more of that rolled look. It is a lot more work though. Once the panels are sewn together line between the seams with strips of thin foam to "fill the void"

Having said that, I think Kiley is on the right track with the technique he's using. those ribs look good with the side panels. Only problem I see with that seat is getting that stitching nice and even and lined up properly. That is simply a matter of practice.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Hey guys, thanks for the tips and compliments. I may take another crack at the seat just for perfections sake. I'd really like to do it myself, and like you said, practice makes perfect. The good thing is that I can at least ride it when I get ready to now. There's no huge hurry to redo. I would really like to add piping. And I would like to try sewing the ribs out of separate pieces of material. I considered all kinds of different options.

Anywho, the props meanthe world guys, I'm really appreciative. Thank you guys!!!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Looks great man! I really dig the fatter seat pad, too.

Don't sew separate pieces together!
If you're going to do that, just pinch it underneath and sew a straight line through through the fold. That rids yourself of a LOT less hassle.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I am loving the look so far man... have you turned on that lamp yet! jsut wait!!! it is sick bright!!!!!

i do not think the ribbs would be good on the seat, it is much to clean and smooth all around and i thinkt he ribs would be out of place unless they followed the stripes on the tank and seat

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

2nd Seat is MUCH better! if you do it again, try adding some piping on the side seams and back hump seams.. It really helps hide ugliness in the stitching. The only trick is that you have to sew it straight which you did well on this one! you could even just do black piping to blend in. Headlight is killer!
