Project GS850 Cafe #01

Chimera Moto Works

Been Around the Block
So, between being self conscious of my project, and being so focused on having it running for the summer, i'm finally going to start a build thread that showcases how I built my bike.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, when I have more time i'll add more pictures with descriptions.
The bike was purchased in November or December, but the actual project wasn't started until around January, and is basically finished as of today minus paint. If i'm lucky it'll be painted before the summer GTG in Maryville. Please reference the Lougin at da Club forum for more information.

Okay where to start: The first two pictures are from when I first picked up the bike down the street at a motorcycle salvage yard, and showing when I was first looking at building it as a Bobber project.

The next few images show different stages of some priming, suspension, etc.

Quick update:

Here is a shot of the tail light and license plate bracket we built. Since this photo, we've rounded all the edges on the bracket to clean it up some. I'll take a photo later of it painted. Having metal material in house, we welded this up for $10. The only cost was the $10 taillight from tractor supply.

I'm 6'2" and these bikes are long (the tank is huge as you're aware) so I can see how stretched out you are on yours. Probably not the most comfortable scoot you've ever ridden. That emgo fairing looks pretty sharp on there... you going to throw that back on? nice work so far

Well by swapping the tank and lowering the seating position, its not as bad as you might think, but the leg position is what's hurting its comfort. I'll be basically flipping the controls and making more like stretched back mid controls than rear sets, and that should help the seating a lot.

Yep, the fairing will be going back on when its final assembly is done. I'm hoping paint/final assembly will happen before the end of July for the get together.

very cool. I hope to be done with mine within the next few weeks. Currently modifying the upper triple clamp and headlight brackets so I can lower the front end a bit and still get clipons under the triple clamp. nice to see another shafty in here.

if i had no cable, and all i could watch on tv was a blank fuzzy screen,...well it would be more entertaining than this....

haha i kid i kid, good stuff man, and good ideas all over the place.
more pics. do it... do it...
hahaha. :D

Thanks for the reply guys, i'm trying to find other pictures i took during the process to post up, including the sidecovers I built. Gulf your paint scheme makes me jealous as hell, next build, i'm going all out, down to a bare frame. I kept this bike as assembled as I could along the way, to not have to worry about the motor/electronics very much.

Cool shafty. I've got an 1100g that I'm almost done putting back together after a lowside on ice. More pics!

I will update this thread soon with some actual updates. In the mean time, for a chat convo., a horrible seat concept picture.
