project "Vaseline" Squirley's cb 550 build

Thanks guys for the kind words...
To answer a few questions in order:
1) the front hub is a harley narrow glide. The wheel bearings are stock gsxr (they are narrower than the harley bearings). The hub is perfect width for the gsxr forks and calipers. I only had to file off a couple thousands off the mounting edge of the caliper to get them to line up with the rotors. You also need a spacer in one side (i used a zx636 spacer since it is the correct inside diameter). And thats it...very easy swap once I figured out what the dimensions were of everything
2)The taillight is home made. When I glassed the seat, I cut out a strip in the back of the seat and glassed in some aluminum that I then lined with LED's and made a plexiglass shell to cover.
3)The headlight on the h1 is from a harley V rod
4)I am assuming you are refering to the frame color of the h1...? If so, the color is a metalic gun metal. However, I am not sticking with this color... I am going with a lighter metalic aluminum color that will match the forks due to the fact that I just ordered some dark pearl paint for the tins.

Let me know if you have any more questions...

Jens

ps, i will hopefully make a new build thread for the H1 with "beginning to where it is at now" pics

I picked the tank up off ebay... It looks to me like the mounting bolts are for a triumph. As I recall, it was a European maker that makes tanks and seats for British bikes. I do know that airtech makes the same style, but this is not airtech.

Awesome work you have done there on both bikes! I like what you have going on here! I will be keeping up with your build! Keep it up!

I have a full write up on the sohc 4 forums on how to do an easy inverted/spoked wheel swap if needed under "squirleys 550 cafe build"
Let me know what you think

I like it, is that pipe a hand bent Yoshima pipe or something? (Not to be confused with Yoshimura.) The curves look way too round and smooth for the normal prodution headers sold by most. I remember Yoshima built some serious CB400Fs for road racing and they had pipes very similar to that. Love it.

I've spoke with you on YouTube, and like I said before, "NICE work"!!! I glad your bike made it as a bike of the month. That shit is a true beast!

All short films but they give you an idea

Reviving an old thread...
After being completed a few years ago, its time to give the 550 a little attention.
I picked up some Works Performance shocks with ideal spring rates so I am starting with a new swingarm and shock mounts. Plan is to redo some of the tail section as well this summer.
