Proof that a CX500 is cafe-able... even though its liquid cooled.

Yeah, the CX tank rules. It has the best shape of all stock tanks, me thinks.
Looks pretty good on my KZ!

Im not familiar with all tanks, ever, but it's a pretty awsome tank. Something very Manx-ish about it.

love the way it turned out. I have a chance to pick one up for $450.that runs good. I JUST MIGHT HAVE TO DO IT NOW THAT I SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE WITH ONE OF THESE ! how well do these bikes run and handle?

there is a fellow in Ottawa putting one of these motors sideways  in a hot yamaha frame with the latest forks and braking, and soem serious horsepower mods. should be soemthing. think about this- I saw it under constructiona and apparently the power output is amazing and now it will be not a transverse v. neat. he says the power to weight plus the new hi tech frame will wail.

how bout dat???

WHEN I SAW YOUR CX I HAD DO DO ONE,HOPE IT TURNS OUT AS NICE AS YOURS.
I WILL POST SOME PHOTOS OF THE POS I JUST PICKED UP ( 1980CX500)

Well, since buying my project from a friend (and doubting at first that I really wanted it), I've now come to love the old CX500. It definately shouts "take a look at me"....hahaha.

ROne, got any pics around the headlight, my CX is in the making at the moment and I have the headlight, brackets and clubmans but want to get an idea of what you did with all that wiring etc under the old headlight setup. Right now I cant even mount the new headlight due to all the wires back there ;)

Cheers

Hey Steve,

I don't have really any photos with the Headlight open but here are a few around it. I'd like to take credit for that part but the guy I bought it from did the front conversion (ie: Headlight, clubmans) I just added the new dash & gauges. He basically stuffed everything into the headlight bucket, it's quite cramped in there but he seems to have left a few unused wires in there so one day I'll get around to tidying it up a little.

This shot was before I added the new gauges, he just had a small aftermarket speedo mounted there.

I've always like the CX's but those damn comstars no matter if their polished, painted, bedazzled or whatever. Just don't do it for me. Gotta be spoke wheels. I almost picked up one and was thinking of making up plates that bolt to the hubs that you could lace up spokes too. I've seen it done before and give you a really nice Guzzi look. This bike in the slideshow just give it that Guzzi look. lol. Good thing is that CX's can be found cheap and are plenty available whenever I look on CL and eBay.

Thanks, I ended up buying an Acewell Speedo/Tach and will wire up an overtemp warning to the hazard LED on it, should tidy the front up a lot. Started on my CX today :) now known as 'Ratty Cafe'

Ignore the stock gauges and wires and all that crap in there, just has headlight, clubmans and new indicators. Waiting for the gauge.

is your headlight visor tilted or is that some camera voodoo?

Yep, simply 'camera voodoo'. ;)

It's just your average visor, no tilt.

Yeah, I saw this bike awhile back when I was searching for Spoke wheels for the CX. Great job, way too much work for me though. Pity the rest of the bike looks shit....hahahaha. Hey, but if anyone is willing to build some for me I'd be more than interested. :D

Hey man, your CX is looking better everytime. Is there something different you've done to it recently? Looks mad. :)
