quad high pipes?

now ive never actually seen high pipes in person so if this is a blatant impossibility please excuse the ignorance, but i was just thinking how it kinda sucks that I cant try out the high piped scrambler look with my /4. Then I got to thinking how its not completely impossible to imagine 2 high pipes on either side.

anyone ever see someone try this? how do you think it would look?

Sounds like it could be pretty damn cool. Plus, if you did it yourself, you could have one crazy looking set of header pipes... seriously crazy.

Go ahead, you'll be the first. But scrambler style high pipes would look out of place on a 4-cylinder since scramblers or any offroad bikes are either singles or twins. The pipes are mounted high to avoid hits from rocks. Other than looking cool and different, there is no practical reason for a 4-cylinder to have high pipes.
 
Practical Scmactical.
If you want practicality you can use em as leg/hand warmers.

EXACTLY!!! What about a Cafe is actually practical?? All the stuff we do to our bikes is to get attention and be different from the majority of people out there. Most of it is custom, one off personal style. /4 high pipes would be, quite frankly, AMAZING!!! I say do it, and that counts as 400 votes FOR doing it!! You'd definitely get a lot of looks. Mandrel bends can be found online pretty easy and for a decent price. I got all the stuff for my exhaust for $40 (shipping and brokerage is what killed me. F&$#ING UPS!!!). If you wanna do it, I'll let you know where I got my stuff.
 
I wish I could fab something up but I have no access to a welder or any idea on how to fab something like that up.

If I did I think I would just sort the headers then run straight pipe all the way back, paint it black with bbq paint and wrap it. you guys don't think it would make the bike suuuuper wide to straddle?

get out of my mind now.serious i have serious thaught about having custom headers done to do this, have a friend that use to work in a muffler shop was thinking about if can find a shop willing let me access his equip have my freind bend me some headers for this purpose.
 
I think it would look pretty sweet. Might get a lil warm and be a bit uncomfortable tho...kinda splay your legs out there a bit, which contridicts the purpose of having knee inserts beat into your tank...but i still say done right it would look sweet.

i have a roll of carbon fiber id use to make custom heat gaurds.

It will still translate heat. Most heat guards actually kick off the pipes themselves and dont touch them. Splaying your legs out even farther tho. I've never done custom exhaust, and i cant imagine how tough tuning it would be not knowing the back pressure corrections needed. It would take some math to figure out with a shorter header, essentially shortening the pipe and thus changing the backpressure. Most aftermarkets have known variables in that dept. which makes it easier to jet for them.
 
Ahh another good point! hadnt even considered that! Way to be Tobism! Its guys like that who help guys like us realize we really need to slow down when we get giddy over modding ideas...lol

had already considered that solution is to have pipes parrelel to top of crank case so can still access carbs

If you're doing highpipes with 2 on each side, you're looking at about 4" worth of pipe that are going to be blocking your access to the carbs, especially when you consider that the carbs need to slide out the side of a lot of these bikes when you need to remove them.

If you run the pipes any lower than that, than you're not really running high pipes.
 
Seems practicality will determine if high pipes should be used or not. I agree it will add too much width to an already wide bike. Carb access is definitely an issue.

see I knew there was a good reason. The only thing I could think of was the width issue, but seeing as some people have made "sport" goldwings I figured that could be ignored.

seeing as these would be custom pipes and require some carb tuning and would completely block that access, I think that pretty much kills it. Although if someone was making a strictly show cafe bike (shoot on sight) it would probably still look pretty sick.
 
Taking the pipes off to tune your carbs might be a PITA when you're dialing everything in, but once they work, you'd rarely have to take the pipes off.

Of course if you're Noel, you make turnouts and end them before they reach the carbs (yeah, REAL short pipes!)
 
Make a 2 into 1 collector that runs into a single pipe. Then from the header back you make the rear section removable (for carb access)
You would then be able to have a typical high pipe with two pipes stacked on top of each other (due to the two, 2-1 headers)

Carpy did a tracy bike a long while ago with 4-4 high pipes...

You think it would be impossible to get all 4 on one side... I like the a-symmetry of the scramblers.
 
4 high pipes on one side would be a bit ridiculous looking. I think a two into one system with both pipes exiting on one side is much more practical and lighter.
