I'm posting this in Trackers because I'm not sure where else to put it. This is what I am calling a "City Tracker". Here is my long suffering Suzuki. It started life as a 2002 DR650SE which i have been mercilessly modifying since i got it. Here's what it looked like when i got it 4 years ago.
Now after a Procycle 725cc kit, FMF full system, Trailtech 8" race light, 19" front wheel, all kinds of suspension, brake, gauge, control and body mods this is what it looks like now:
The 725 kit kicks ass and was awesome until they released a 790 kit. Now I'm suffering from cc envy. This is my everyday commuter, long distance tourer (gotta give props to renazco racing for the amazing seat) and with a change of wheels its my off road bike too. I love my old school standard bikes but you can't beat the versatility of a dual sport bike, especially in pot hole city.
The straight razor is the street urchin cycles logo for any bikes that we work on.
hey man, do yourself a favor and NEVER sell this bike! I had one of these 400sm's and it was the best bike i ever had. i had more fun on that bike than any of my other ones and i kick myself every day for selling it
yeah i want to find something that i can go off-road, not jumping or anything, but still be able to cruise on the highway at 75. you have to go on the highway to get anywhere good in So Cal. im thinking xr400-500. def not a 725.

Maybe test ride the xr650l or DR650. I think you will find that the 400 won't be able to hang on the highway as well as you are gonna want. The highways out there in CA are fast!
I have another set of wheels for me DR and its lots of fun in the woods.
