question about an aftermarket starter button on a cb360

hello everyone. i did a search and came up with what i think will work but i just want to run it by the pro's here before i actually commit to it ;) so i have a 1975 cb360 and of course during my build i managed to break the starter button. its a 3 wire setup. from what i have read i think its power all the time to the center wire from the kill switch. the outside wire is the headlight and the inside wire is for the starter. the idea if i getting this right is that once the ignition is on and the kill switch is on the power is given to the from the center wire to the outside for the headlight. when you push the button it disconnects from the headlight to allow for max amps the the starter and and connects to the inside. so my idea is the run a aftermarket starter button. this is a 2 wire button so if i just splice the headlight wire into the power wire ill have the headlight working but will not turn off when i go to start the bike. but i think this will be fine? am i right? any advice. thanks again for the help :)

There's a wiring diagram around here somewhere ???

That will help your diagnosis. I also find it easier to think of these problems when I can visualise the wire-colours. I'm not familiar enough with your model to make recommendations without the schematic ;)

cheers

Not sure if this will work in your case but when I did my bike I just picked up a kill switch for a dirt bike ($12) two wires, hooked her in and away we go. Mind you I rewired the whole thing and eliminated any un-necessary b\s so it was a piece of cake once I had it figured. Works like a charm

well i found a wiring diagram but this one as far as the starter switch shows just two wires. we have the 1 to the starter and then 1 to a ground which doesnt make much sense if your looking at the switch because the "ground" wire would only be touching when the starter button is disengaged ??? any ideas

Re: Re: question about an aftermarket starter button on a cb360

The switch grounds the loop to the handlebars when engaging the starter switch in an OEM configuration, to my knowledge. Once grounded, the solenoid will actuate to complete the starter motor's circuit to the battery. So, your wires to the switch should have 12v power when the ignition is on and 0v when pushed.

You were asking about the headlight cut off wiring in your original post though? I have no idea how that works :(
