raise the back of my cx500

Hey all,

I want to raise the back of my cx500. The stock shocks give it that "bobber" look when all I want is the "cafe" stance. I can't lower the front bc of the clubmans...and ideas? What size should I go with and where should I look? Thanks.

Darryl

You CAN lower the front........

That is by far the "cheapest" way to do it (will only cost you time, a bit of tube and maybe some new fork seals). And from memory, the CX has a pretty high ground clearance as standard, so dropping the front won't be too big an issue.

Or, you could look at longer rear shocks (more money and a fair bit of guesswork).

I agree with Hillsy on the forks, you cna drop'm pretty easily and not by passing the tubes thru the top clamp. As well, add a fork brace...those 33mm forks are a bit flexy on their own.

As for rear shocks, just about ANYTHING will be better than the stockers. Even new they were marginal. Spend $100 or so on some good generic shocks at dennis kirk or Omars etc. Take one of your stockers off, measure the length and then buy a longer shock with the same mountings. Just be sure that the springs on the new shocks are stout enough and you should be good.

Awesome guys, thanks a lot. I picked through a bike graveyard this afternoon...FUN. I managed to get my hands on two diff. sets of springs for the back and an extra tank to beat the piss out of with a mallet for fun.

Here's the goods...

Sounds like a decent place to start anyway. You should probably take them apart as far as you can and really clean off the surface gunk off (rust too)...that should help and you'll have prettier shocks!
