Random Newbie questions...

Since I'm new to the whole "old bike" and "cafe" scene, I've got a few questions for you guys - Hopefully I can get some simple answers...

1) What does the whole (59) thing stand for?

2) My tank has 2 little "nipple" things on the bottom corners of the tank near the seat that I had to put a random tube between them to hold the gas. What are these for and what's supposed to be hooked up to them?

3) I had another one but I seemed to have forgotten it for now... I'll post it when I remember it

4) I remembered it! When you guys are building these project bikes, do you wait to license and insure it until after it's done and you're getting ready to ride it or do you take care of that right away so you can ride and make sure everything's in working order for a while before tearing it down and keep it's papers and insurance up to date while it's being town down?

Fuel balancer... so that gas can run from one side of your tank to the other

The aluminum in your deodorant is accelerating your alzimers...

So there's supposed to be a tube running across there or is it something a little more complicated? Like I said, I don't have anything attached there so no clue what I'm supposed to be looking for. If it is a tube, I assume it should run over the top of the frame instead of under so that I can lift the tank up and out if needed?

what bike is it?

I believe it is supppose to run under but like you said, its a pain in the ass to remove the tank so on my cb450, I juzt ran the balancer tube up and over the frame. Never had any problems.

Is there gas in the tank now?.. Its possible that the previous owner plugged it up with a screw or a weld?

It's a 72 CL450. Sounds like it's just a tube connecting them so I can run it across the top of the frame. That sounds good to me!

There is some gas in it, just because I wanted to fill the carbs up and see if I could start it. Previous owner didn't have gas in the tank, it was completely dry - tank, carbs, fuel lines, everything! Good thing too, it was sitting for almost 2 years without running. That could have been a pain to clean out.

Im gonna suggest that you may have to take apart the carbs and either have them cleaned or clean them ourself.
Whats the condition of the inside of the tank?.. You might want to pick up some inline fuel filters..

I took one of them apart as soon as I got it back - first step after finding out it has basically brand new spark plugs. The bowls were spotless, and the jets and brass stuff appeared to brand new. I'm sure a quick shot of carb cleaner wouldn't hurt, but I am trying to get the electrical system hooked back up right now. I also need a new throttle cable so I posted in the "looking for" forum about finding that and a points cover. It's not ready to go yet, but so far it's looking pretty clean :D
