Rattle can clear on raw metal tank?

I have been modifying a cx500, my first effort. I want to do a raw metal tank with a coating. Can I use a 2k rattle can on a roughed/brushed surface? I will not be working it to a high polish, or any sort of polish. Also would I want to use a metal etch as well as sanding or does the sanding create enough of a tooth for the clear to adhere? I have seen a lot of etch products such as U_POL #8, but I don't know which are just acid and which also has primer (pigment).
Yes, I have considered powder coating, but I basically want a bike that's all me and my garage.
Thanks

It doesn't stick and discolors with fuel. Maybe if you use a really high end clear.

Not a good shot of the tank, but this is a year after bare metal clear. Now I like it and made the whole bike a rat rod cause of the tank.

It will be ok I did mine a year ago an held up ok, be careful of gas spills.

. Yes but you don't really take care as far as cleaning man. And I'm sure Snake will back me up on that. Haha. Glad some one I know is up on here

Home powder coat kit from Eastwood dude. You will not regret it. Everyone in your area will be begging you to powder stuff for them. lol.

Sweeet, thanks guys. I want to use this 2-part

says it's fuel resistant. I was originally going to just do duplicolor, but I think it's worth the extra $$$ to have something fuel resistant. Did you guys acid etch? I am mostly concerned with it lifting off the surface, butt 1 year would be plenty long because I might get tired of it.
@Legendary- I took a look at those kits. Not bad! Now if I could just get my oven big enough for my frame.....maybe when I start riding a 125

spray 2k is great but it is very high gloss. It's absolutely very fuel resistant. . Not sure if you are after that shiny a look

No, I am not looking for the high gloss. I want to let it sit, then I was thinking of sanding with like a 1500 to get it down to satin?
To answer my own question I was looking up metal prep for painting and it said acid etch OR abrasion. So I think my scotch-brite finish will suffice as long as I degrease

Yes it it's. Not all, but most clear is.

Really? That's not what I've been hearing. I heard paint clear is UV, but powdercoat clear isn't and turns yellow.

Yeah the POR glisten looks good, I think I found that in my original searches, but I had already ordered the 2k. POR is actually made to go on metal though, even polished? I'll give it a host on the next go round. I wonder how well it deals with heat, for say valve covers.

Nope. I have used tons of it, and it specifies UV protectant when you buy it. Many colors specify that they aren't, so you use a UV proof clear. Works great. Gretta is running it on her frame.

I use pbtb lot. All of their clears are exterior grade.

Sorry for the semi-OT, but would the clears already mentioned work on parts of the frame? I was thinking about doing the swing arm.
