hey guys, i was at pep boys looking for some paint for my frame. found this stuff http://www.vhtpaint.com/epoxypaint.html i searched and didn't find any posts on here about this stuff. just wondering if anyone has tried it. i picked up a can, i'm gonna do a test piece and let it cure for the week like it says and pour some gas on it to see what happens. i'd like to know how it will hold up for my frame and other misc parts.

Actually theres a lot of discussion on the epoxy paint. Search DTT for "epoxy paint" and you'll see.

Some people get great results, some don't.

thanks, i've searched through alot of them. most of them were about appliance paint, from what i read on those they are not meant for outdoor use and will fade or get chalky. but i'll keep researching, i painted a test piece tonight, but it has to cure for a week.

I have used VHT products for years on headers and their wrinkle black on engines. I have never used their epoxy paint but can tell you they have high quality products.
Let us know how it works out.

I used the epoxy vht paint on my rims, brake caliper, and a few other small parts last winter and the paint has held up really well, no major chips or fade. But I do think the appliance epoxy sprays on thicker and maybe a little more durable for the frame.
Hope this helps.

I think you are going to be dissatisfied, but then I very much dislike rattle can paint - I think its all garbage. That said you should know two things. The first is that they may call this crap epoxy but its not. True epoxy is a 2-part compound in which a resin is set by the addition of a catalyst. You can have rattle cans loaded with true epoxy but once they are mixed you only have a few hours (temperature dependent) in which to shoot it or it will set up in the can. the other thing is that if you had read the advertisement you would have seen that the stuff self cures over night, there is no 7 days to wait.

PS: Did you notice the upper limit of temperature range this stuff can withstand? 250 F. Not much. A guy living in Arizona could get three quarters of the way to this stuff's heat limitation by parking in the sun any day in June.

thanks for the responses guys. i'd like to get every thing powder coated or professionally painted, but it's my first bike so i'm not going crazy with it. i'll keep searching through the forums

Yup, that's exactly what I've been using on my bike. I really like it. It's made by Duplicolor, and I have had pretty good results with their stuff, I must say. Shot my frame in this stuff, as well as some other parts, and they all came out pretty well.

I'm a total cheapskate and have used rattle cans for eons. I also have sprayed "real paint" but for a bike rattle can is good enough as long as you keep fuel away from it. It does chip way more than powder or "good paint", but it's cheap...

Try 2KMax as a top clear coat. It's 2 part in a can and supposedly great for gas tanks.
