RD250 Street Tracker

Here is a video of it running. The top end is still stock and original; I didn't want to waste the money on new pistons, boring, etc until I had the jetting dialed in and knew that it wasn't gonna burn down right away.

Man, the sound from your pipes is awesome!!!! Very throaty at an idle and low r's but still sounds like an RD up top... How is the powerband , where does it come on and how high does it go.. Also what instrumentation is that ( trail tech ? ) I dig it, VERY cool and orig.......Cafe Freak

Thanks. I like the sound of my pipes too, but I fear the neighbors may be getting sick of my tuning sessions :p

The powerband is pretty high in the rev range, but I'm still working on dialing in the jetting (I'd say it's 98% there right now) so I can't say for sure where it is yet.

The gauge is an Acewell. I really like all of the functions of it (digital speedo & tach, turn signal indicator, high beam ind.). But I'm having issues with the speed not being consistent. I need to give them a call and see if there's something I can do.

never really noticed the trackers as much until I joined this site and checked out some builds like this one, really really freakin cool

hot damn, i remember seeing your superhawk at rockerbox !!!

rolled in with a small group from chicago and we were oooh'ing and aaah'ing you bike. def a sweeeeet bike. the pix are great but that bike is def sexy in person.

Hey! Congrats on bike of the month!! deserving!

What are those tires you're running. I'm looking for something for my XS and I like the look of those!!

Thanks!
Those are about the least expensive tires I could find. They are "Golden Boy" made by Shinko. Pretty sure I got them from motorcyclesuperstore.com... they cost about $35 ea. ;but they seem to be holding up and working good.

Thanks again,
Stout

Thanks!

The header pipes on the superhawk are the stock pipes with a cone I made at the end so the tubing would be the correct diameter for the mufflers. The mufflers themselves are actually from a Harley Night Rod. I cut about 8 inches out of them and welded them back together. Got 'em off ebay for $20.

So, I've decided I'm going to try and make some power with this RD. I'm redoing the pipes right now and I'll probably do some work on the ports and the top end. You can check out the pipe progress here: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=24203.0

If anyone has any suggestions on where I can get new 250 pistons please let me know. Aftermarket 350 pistons seem to be readily available but not so much for the 250. I've heard there is a Polaris piston that can have the skirt trimmed to work for a 250, anyone know about that? Thanks, Stout

yeah, I've heard that too... but I'd need the cylinders and heads and I haven't found a set for a decent price yet. but if anyone out there has a set they want to get rid of please let me know! - stout
