Rd400 tank on cb750

Has anyone ever used a rd400 tank on a cb750? I really like the way these tanks look and would like to use it in my build. Ive just been questioning the potential size difference and having it look odd on there. Anyone with some insight?

The cb750 has a 3 rail backbone, and the RD has a single. I seriously doubt it wll fit.

If it does though, the only opinion that matters is yours. Your bike so it should look good to you. Nobody else needs to like it.

I am sure i will get yelled at for this but i eliminated the two side rails on the bike. I fit a gsxr750 motor in the frame and it was the only way. I was planning on using the stock 750 tank but the top of the carbs hit the bottom lip of the tank. If i have to seriously modify a tank id rather do it to a tank i liked.

Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh...

No yelling here, but a definite warning.

That frame is now a deathtrap. You removed a massive amount of support, THAN stuck a much more powerful engine in.

Its your bike, and your life... But please do some more research and have that frame properly braced. These 70s era bikes were flimsy and weak in the frame/suspension department to begin with and with the addition of a more modern engine, well I wouldnt want to ride it over 15 MPH.

Again, though, its your ass on the line. Just think about it before you go any further please. Dont want anyone getting hurt.

Reinforcing the frame is definitely going to be done. I wouldn't ride it either without having it done. That aspect has been in the back of my head sine i took the rails off. All i can picture is that it actually doesn't spin the tire and then twist the frame to hell. I was thinking of doing something along the lines of how the dohc cb750s have their backbone. Seems like a tank is going to be a pain in the ass no matter what way i look at it. Serves me right for never being able to be happy with something normal.

It happens man. Head over to the SOHC4 forum, and check out some of the builds there. When it comes to the CB750, thats the braintrust over there...

Post a pic or two over there and ask what they think. I can gurantee that a couple of them will have a few really good suggestions for you.

And post a couple pics here too... Id love to see the bike in question as well.

Pictures please . GSXR motor in a SOHC frame and cutting off frame rails doesn't sound very, shall we say, credible. Not the oddest thing ever done to a bike, but getting close. :)
