Do not rev the engine with no load.

This is not an oem application.

New cars are consuming more and more oil these days. Just sayin'.

Washdown is a possibility. I agree. This part i consider debateable, so WOT could be replaced with 'heavy throttle' in my explanation if you are concerned, as redline pulls do not require WOT. The possibility of wash down at WOT is more of a concern if you are not staying up in the revs.

Thanks Dohc, I copy all on not revving the engine. I'll delete that step. I'll just run it at idle, let it cool, change the oil/filter, and then go ride it. I think that we are saying the same thing about the pulls while out riding.

You procedure looks sound, but I would replace "rev the engine" with "drive the bike", taking it to those RPMs. You need the applied road load to resist the movement of the engine and apply stress to the internal engine components. That is why some people will say to find a long, sloping hill.

I'm the OE Engineer for many of the modern motorcycle and automotive engines so my tastes are more conservative. We spend millions of dollars developing procedures to ensure longevity for both the engine and the emissions, as required by the law. The procedure I gave you was paraphrased from one I just wrote for a small displacement powersports engine. Due to the cylinder type, we are not pre-bedding in the engine, and so I felt the procedure was applicable to your engine rebuild.

I would still recommend you stay away from full throttle, especially carbureted. Cylinder wash down is a real possibility. 7/10th throttle should be plenty of load.
Thanks for the advice Red! I got the message, revs with no loads is bad ;D

I'm liking this build.

...plus you mentioned black skirts and you know they go well with certain bikes...

Re: Bigsam302's 76 CB750F w/GSXR Forks: Project Helen - Finally, progress!!!

Only thing better than a black skirt is a black skirt and a yellow top

I wish that I could have found someone to do the top of my pistons when I got my skirts done. Those pistons still look good!

Does Cycle X not do that?

I don't think so. I think they just coat the skirts and other internal parts. I would have gotten it done if they did ;)

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it.

Many thanks goes out to MRieck who was able to get me 3 cam tower studs and really saved me from having to pick up another block on ebay just to get one bolt.

I cleaned my cam towers and finally installed them. It is finally coming together.

All lubed up and ready to receive my new cam.

I had to take a break after installing the cam and sprocket. Installing this really worked my nerve. I couldn’t get the cam chain to fit on the sprocket. It took about 4 attempts and I couldn’t figure it out for nothing in the world. Luckily, fellow member Dino put together videos of his 750 that he is assembling on YouTube. I’ve watched them before and it turned out to be a lifesaver. I made a stupid mistake by installing the sprocket and then the chain when I was sliding the camshaft through the towers. After re-watching Dino’s video I saw that I was doing it backwards. Problem solved!

Finally got it seated!

My APE piston stop tool worked out nicely.

After I tightened down my cam sprocket correctly aligned, I went to install my camshaft caps, only to realize that I misplaced my bolts for it. I tore my garage apart looking for them and I think that I accidentally through them away when I was cleaning off my work bench. Once again, I’m stopping for the day and ordering a new set of bolts. It’s probably better to use new bolts here anyway.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Sorry about that. I'll have to figure it out after I get home today. It's weird because the photos are in the same location as the rest of them and I didn't do anything different this time.
