Re-connecting the electric-starter on my bobber

I have a 75' XS 650 Bobber. Currently the bike is running a 12V-3Ah battery (kick-start only), but I'm getting sick and tired of kicking at least 20 times before the bike starts so I want to hook up a 12V-14Ah battery to the system. Can I just connect a wire from the starter and another wire from the + side of the battery to a push button? Shouldn't be any more difficult then that? How thick should the wires be?

No, you will need a starter solenoid.
Wouldn't it be simpler to figure out why the bike won't start on the first couple kicks?

What Rich Ard said. If your bike doesn't start in a couple kicks, there is something wrong with it.

A starter solenoid is required to handle the heavy current draw of the starter. An ordinary push button will melt from that the power required by the starter.
