Really getting sick of winter!

I went out to my garage this morning to find the back half under an inch or two of ice. The rain we had last night ran into the shop and then froze. The lawnmower, waste oil bucket, and an engine stand are froze tight to the floor. Luckly, it didn't get up high enough to get to some parts I had sitting on the floor. This summer I'm going to have to seal up the foundation of that old garage. Kinda like polishing a turd in my opinion. It and the house will be getting a new roof this spring, though. It is just starting to leak.

Hey Man I hear ya, that sucks! I had my roof on my house replaced last year. I bought the house 4 years prior and the previous owners listed the house with a new roof. Come to find out they just had some half assed roofer slap another layer of shingles on the house without proper flashing or sealing. So as a result I got a leak from 2 of the sky lights. I figured at the time I just needed to go up there an seal it with some tar, but when I got up there I noticed a spongy area of the roof below the sky light. I lifted a couple shingles to feel underneath with my hand. I felt soft wood and pushed with my fingers. My arm just kept going and I was past elbow deep in the wood. Half the roof rotted away before I even knew there was a problem. I recheck the inspection report and nothing was noted on it about any potential issues with the roof. So I hired a contractor and had a dumpster delivered, as the roof now required a full tear off (2 layers max is code). The damage was worse than expected requiring beam replacement, new wood, new (proper) copper flashing everywhere, some siding replacement due to water damage, insulation and shingles. The whole deal took 2 weeks and cost $14,000, just 4 years after buying the house when the seller said the roof was new and good for 20 years (A-holes). So I hear your frustration, but it could be worse. The weather sucks, but hang in there. -MBS

I am mostly concerned about the roof on the house. That one isn't leaking yet. But I just remodeled the bathroom down to the studs and put new drywall on the ceilings below it due to the plumbing leaking. So I really don't want all that destroyed by the roof. We are re-financing our mortgage and that is a stipulation of the loan. Everything must have a good roof. But with the new mortgage at a much better interest rate the payments will be much better and a little more room in our budget for "more important things".

I feel your pain. When we get enough rain or the snow melts or what not...I get water in the back half of my garage which is about 4 or 5 inches lower then the part where I park the car n the bike. It sucked the one day I went out..fired up the tractor to plow the driveway.....then noticed the plow and the tire chains on the tractor were frozen fast in about an inch or 2 of water.......I didn't notice at first cuz I just walked in there in the dark and hopped on and fired it up....but when it wouldnt go and I couldnt get the plow off the damn floor I realized quickly what was going on. But its in the 50's here today and raining....even had a modest thunder storm this morning.....spring will be here soon......

I like your thinking... "more important things" ;)

SERIOUSLY. Seattle weather in February / March is usually non-stop rain, but at least it's in the 50's. We've been bumping around the 30's and low 40's for a while now, and it snowed yesterday. I know most folks in Toronto or, well, most anywhere on the northern half of the US are used to snow in February, but I'm not...

here in milwaukee a week or so ago we hit a day of 62 degrees in full sun. to my horror my bike was still under the knife.

Just starting to see the ground here in Massachusetts. We're supposed to get another foot or so of snow tomorrow. Once I get a chain on my bike I might just have to shovel a path to the road to get the bike out.
