Really High Idle Please Help!

Hello ive got a 71 CL450, and it was running fine for a while then one day it started doing this weird thing where upon turning it on it idles crazy high as if im pulling the throttle, then if I clutch in it idles even higher, I can go with with clutch pulled all the way in when im in 1st gear which is obviously bad. My throttle and throttle cables appear fine and my clutch cable should be ok as well. Any info would be greatly appreciated ;D

It sounds as if the cable is getting stuck. It might look fine from the outside but there could be any matter of crust stopping it inside the casing. Invest in a cable cleaner if you have not already. They are a blood cheap and essential tool.

Also check if the springs where the throttle cable attach to the carbs are free and working.
If the throttle cable takes a sharp turn it will also affect the cable from returning. Check that the cable routing is as smooth as possible.

I agree with kinked cables. Take the tank off, but keep a fuel feed. Start the bike, still high r.p.m. ? Check intakes to see if they are cracked. My experience, high r.p.m. is usually down to these two things. Cables or intake.

IMO you have to check your cam chain tension. These old Hondas are known for slipping tensioners. I think if you own an Old Honda you would feel it in your grip that the resistance in your cable would be increasing or that a spring has let loose.

But then again........

Did you accidentally type this response into the wrong thread?

no i meant it for the fast idle. My CB 350 and one other Honda i had did this when the Cam chain tensioner loosened and slid back.
