Rear brake dragging?

NBraun

Been Around the Block
I'm working on 79 gs750 and i just recently got the tire back on. The pads had closed so we had to open them, and then it was a little tough getting the caliper on, and it was a little tight, but brakes always drag slightly so i didn't think to much.

The bike feels like its getting dragged, and when i step on the rear brake it feels like it wants to pull the wheel. After a short 1/2 mile ride, the disk was very hot to the touch.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a stuck caliper. You are probably going to have to rebuild the caliper.

Rarely the caliper but not unheard of . More likely the pressure relief hole (the tiny one) in the master cylinder reservoir plugged .

Loosen the bleeder and see if it releases, if it doesn't the caliper is stuck. Either the piston in the bore or the slides it rides on.... if it does, master cylinder or hose. So then move up to the banjo bolt at the master, does it release then? If it does, the Master is plugged as kopcicle said...if not, hose is suspect.

Oh, sorry i didn't update this. I tried the bleeder trick a while back and that didn't help, so i just took it apart. (One dang bolt needed the torch and the air chisel!) It ended up being a stuck piston. One side was good, the other gouged all up. But thanks anyways!
