rear fender?

ph!L

Been Around the Block
so i started my build, i will post pictures at some point i'm sure. but anyways, my question is do i need a rear fender? i still have the battery box and my electronics are in stock location so im wondering if they are too exposed like that? if i got caught in the rain or if i went through a puddle would it short out the electronics? i love the look of it without the bulky rear fender but just let me know what you guys think, and if you found a creative way around it you should let me know! thanks!

not sure what bike your speaking of.... but i pulled the fender off my cb500 and left the plastic inner fender for puddle purposes.

If your going to ride it in the wet, I would leave it in place. (I'm probably going to have front and rear full size fenders on my 378)
Although this site is about cafe racers, te emphasis seems to be more on race replicas and not 'cafe racers' although most 'classic' race bikes of 60's through early 70's used fenders
I was thinking about classic alloy blade mudguards, until I saw the price (rear, about $140, too expensive for me to cut up- probably ;D)

Sorry to leave out the bike its a 71 cl350 but I just love how it looks no fender

im doing a straight piece of fiberglass inbetween the rear frame (would be the "seat stays" on a bicycle... not sure if it has a name on a motorcycle) just to keep mud and water out of the goodies. its personal preference... i hate fenders on cafes for some reason.

i was thinking of trying to make a hugger for the rear wheel so i could take out the plastic bit and rear fender.

T71Ford used a piece of steel mesh on his bike to replace the fender, but that bike is gonna see minimal water I suppose.

Could try a sheet of clear plastic or plexiglass or something too

That's a good idea thanks bigr. I'm kind of thinking about doing a bent piece of aluminum and p clamping it to the frame.

what i did on my cl350... bobbed the fender leaving a tab to mount the light
