Rear hoop purpose or necessary

I think it makes the frame stiffer and makes up for the seat mount that you probably cut out. I'm interested what other people have to say because I may do by back end differently.

The hoop adds torsional stiffness to the rear of the frame. Can a bike be functional without it? Probably. Would I build a bike without a rear frame hoop? Probably not unless I reinforced the stiffness of the frame in another way.

I considered going without a hoop as I was going to do a cafe conversion, so I emailed DCC and they replied saying it wasn't completely necessary. However in terms of how it looks and the extent you've gone to make your cafe look as good as it possibly can, in my opinion, I wouldn't go for it. I'm usually the type of guy that goes for form over function yet in this instance I think it's a no go. Anyway I've decided to go for a brat-style now, so I think it is necessary with the low-profile seat.

Thanks for the info, I havent cut anything off yet. but to make room for the battery I'll need to cut the passager support hoop. however I kinda like where my signals are, on the factory ears, so i'm thinking maybe just a straight tube across just in front of the signals.

That will likely rub on your rear tire when the suspension bottoms out - that's why the brace is raised above it now.
