Rear shocks

Has anyone put after-market shocks on their bikes. I was thinking of putting some different shocks on my 1982 cb650 because I want to raise the rear end up a little. Is this even possible? or is it a bad idea?

You can do this up or down... trick is to find shocks with the right ends, in the length you want and rated for your bike's weight and riding style.

Your best bet is to probe the guru's here for their input on the right ones... cuz I have NO clue :D

A local bike custom shop will be your best friend in this... dealers know OEM... well they should ::)

Or just grab some OEM's like me and use a set of brackets like I did. Same specs but they dropped the rear a few inches.

dont lower a 650 at rear unless you ready replace side stand cause it will stand to upright at point can fall over other direction.

good point... lower the bike to far it will sit to much up right on the side stand... So I use the center stand when its parked for a longer period of time...

true...I think lowering the front end 1.5-2 inches is a good compromise

I was wondering if they would catch that... guess not.

The side stand issue goes either way though... raise the bike and the bike is at a greater angle when at rest.

Get a pair of longers shocks for the rear unless you're just looking for a higher angle, lower the front forks through the triples... cheaper.

To figure out which shocks are right you need an expert in the feild... meaining a GOODS parts counter guy.

the 650 actualy doesnt have anough lean compared to other bikes so raising it should make it lean just right, raising blocks might work they go between the coil springs and stretch them up, part souce sells them.

Tell them what kind of bike, what it weighs, what you weigh, how high you want it and what you want it to do. It's not a cheap option though.

Hmm, yah thats pretty pricey, specially since the stock ones are still good, so ill look into the raising blocks, though im not sure if they would look very good

raising blocks are made for cars so our bikes are so light compared to a car so shouldnt be a problem

I bought a perfect match for my originals from this guy.

The quality is actually pretty good, assuming they're from China. But they are the perfect length eye to clevis and were pretty much the only thing I needed to buy on my bike.
