Rear suspension travel?

Hey guys I have a slight problem I'm having trouble figuring out. I have a seat from roc city I notched it out for the shocks so it would hug the frame a little tighter, but because of this the back tire scrubs the back of the seat. so to fix this problem I want to notch the rear section of the seat to accommodate for suspension travel. What would be the best way to determine the travel so that i only take minimal material off the seat?

Take one of the shocks off, compress the spring enough top slip the retaining ring off, take the spring off, and put it back on the bike. Take the other shock off and set it aside. Your bike will now be at maximum compression of the rear suspension. Cut what you need off the seat plus at least another 1/4". Sounds like a lot extra, but it isn't at all. You would be amazed at how much everything deflects in a bump hard enough to exercise the suspension all the way. Hit something hard without actual clearance and serious carnage to your bike can result. Consider which way the tire is moving when it strikes your fiberglass, and how hard it probably is going to hit it. After you carve it up, put it back together with confidence you won't have problem.

Awesome thanks. But Im not sure how to remove the spring mmine have the chrome sleeve around the top and I didnt see a way to remove the lower retainer?
