Rear wheel

I've had problems with the spokes on my rear wheel breaking. I think 25 spokes broke in one ride. Since so many spokes have broken I think I shall get a new rear wheel rather than rebuilding it.

I've recently bought a wheel from a supplier but my garage informs me it the wrong type. Does anyone know of a reliable product online? I've done some research myself but I cannot find anything at all. I have heard some CG wheels will work, is this correct. My specific model is the 15' plate 125cc.

No update? I think I'm at the upper limit of weight for the Ace at 101kg. None gone yet. Should I be concerned?

I'm approx 16.1/2 stone (circa 105kg) and 6" 3" tall, so not really the ideal build for the ACE, but find the seating position relatively comfy, even with clip-on's, and totally agree with the weakness of the standard Skyteam spokes as they are woefully weak, and the only cure is to replace them with the OE Honda replacements instead. Likewise, the cush drive rubbers and Chain have all been replaced by genuine Honda items and, touch wood, have not suffered any problems since.

I originally purchased a gold coloured chain from OOracing, and whilst it looked nice, it was poor quality and needed constant adjustment. I have subsequently replaced it with a Heavy Duty DID 420 chain, and although it was more expensive, it is worth it as I hardly have to adjust it anymore, and the whole gear changing / riding experience is just so much better - I really recommend this to everybody as it has made a huge difference!

Thanks for the feedback. I read on a tech review the other day that the ideal weight was 75kgs. Sorry I don't have the link (been doing a bit of reading lately).

Thanks for the heads up on the chain.

My best advise for new bikes is get spokes set and wheels trued as soon as possible. Correct tension will stop spokes from breaking. And get better tyres while you are there. M45s are cheap and good as are Pirelli city demons. Scrub them in before hard riding. Huge improvement!!!!

Part numbers for genuine honda spokes for the rear are here...

Totally agree with orrible, keep spokes tensioned and I too have never had one break. I have also just changed tyres to Michelin city pro's off ebay. Payed £21 for the front and £36 for the rear posted. I went up one size on the rear to 100/90/18 and the difference in confidence is dramatic. One word of warning on the rear wheel, the bearings are crap. Changed mine after 2000k cos they were destroyed. Cheers Dave
