The PO of my CB750 was kind enough to drop off the 4-1 pipe he removed from the bike (he wanted a 4-2). I'd much rather a 4-1, and it's in amazing shape. But it's blue'd up pretty good. What works to clean this thing up some?

Sorry to have to say it but, I don't think there is anything that will remove the bluing from the pipes. The bluing is caused by excessive heat from running lean and this permanently dis-colors the pipes.

well if your ignition timing is off itll blue the pipes. if your carbs are off itll blue your pipes. even some bikes with stock tuning will do it, severity depending generally how long the pipe runs straight from the port, if its bent right at the port it happens easily.

wanna know the real way? not blue be gone bs but, getting a proper tune on the engine, and ceramic coating the inside of the pipe. and, that will only reduce the effects, stainless blues with heat, PERIOD. keep the heat away and it wont do that

now you know why alot of bikes run dual wall pipe. the inner carries the heat and the outer has the "bling" but is protected from heat.

Maybe I'm the only one who sees stainless pipes with the blueing effect and thinks it looks kinda awesome??

I'm with ya. Stainless looks good "broken in". The longtubes on my Stepside have "blued" in nicely :D

I forgot to specify, but the exhaust I'm looking to clean up is chrome.
I don't mind a little bluing (makes it look like it gets ridden), I was just looking to clean it up as much as I can before I put it on the bike.

Wizards Products sells a product to get rid of the blue. My boss used it on his pipes, did a fairly good job but not a 100% solution.

Chrome pipes do blue, even when running right.
About 2yrs ago H D started promoting it as a 'feature'
You either get original double skinned pipes or don't ride it if you want chrome to stay 'chromy'

The stainless pipes iv'e had in the past only turned yellow!, I musn't have been trying hard enough ;)

I kinda like a little blue on pipes as well. But as stated before, the only way to prevent it is a double wall header pipes or ceramic coating the inside before they turn.

If you clean them with methylated spirits or rubbing alcohol to get off all grease and fingermarks then polish with a brass polish they will go a golden colour with the heat.

We used to do this to get an interesting finish on our stainless steel chimney flues. I'm not sure how the finish would hold up with the splashes and stuff you get on a bike but if it looks bad standard metal polish will take the golden finish off again.
