Hey dudes. Can someone help me out? I'm looking at buying a 73 CB200 to fix up. It's a great deal but needs soooo much shit, most of which I think I can handle (translation: Tony can handle!), but it has no papers. I get the general sense that's it's a giant pain in the dick but can someone tell me more specifically what kind of time. money and complication it takes to restart ownership on such a bike? Thanks!
First thing you need to do is get the UVIP from the Ministry. This will tell when it was last registered. If it was many years ago it is easier to get the paperwork. If you can get a ownership history, who you bought it from, who he bought it from and so on ( will have to go on the affidavit. )
Then you will need to get an affidavit made up and signed by a notary/lawyer. Last one cost me $25 . When filling out the affidavit , the more detailed it is the better.
I have the paper work (affidavit and instructions) from the Ministry that you need, all you do is fill it out and get it notarized and you are usually good to go. Must have a bill of sale from your purchase.
You will have to pay for the new ownership ($10) then the taxes and the fee for ownership inot your name as usual.
I have done this twice in the last 6 months without a problem.
If you can talk nice to the girl in the licence office give her the v.i.n ann ask if its in the system ? if not get an afidavid from the lawyer ,if its in the system try to sweet talk the guys name from the mot office then tell the lawyer you got it from that guy
of its been around for years it probably wont be in the system
What if the bike has absolutely no history whatsoever, it's a "found" bike. As long as that model was imported into Ontario, can it still be registered through a lawyer?
Yes it can, I have a bike like that right now. The cl450 that I have doesn't exist in the MTO records. As far as they are concerned it is a virgin. The affidavit is more so to prove that you have become the rightful owner via legal means.
