Registering a project bike

I found a 72 cl350 that needs to be completely gutted and redone. The owner wants $100 for it and doesnt have a title. Im looking for a project bike that I can completely redo. How would I register this bike once it's completed? Im in Michigan and the registering bikes is a bit of a pain, but I dont know if anyone has experience with registering project bikes.

Thanks,

you should check with the tag office to make sure that you need a title for a bike that old. In Georgia, as long as the motorcycle is pre 1986 all that you need is a bill of sale, insurance and a drivers license.

hmmmm...can you register a bike in georgia if your a florida resident or do you have to have a valid georgia license and address? im having issues getting a bike registered here with no title?

good luck with yours. i know in some states if you have an affidavit signed by the previous owner and notarized stating the previous owner also never had a title and that they are handing all rights to the bike to you. and have a bill of sale signed and notarized as well that is sometimes enough.

I am about 95 percent sure that you need to be a resident in georgia with a georgia license to register here. I'll try and find the site that has all of the information for you.

i am 100% on this. all you need is a bill of sale in michigan. you can call the sos if you want but that is all you need. you can make up a bill for your self and sign some one elses name and dont tell them you restored it. make the date on the bill of sale no more than 15 days before you get a title for it of you will get a small fine added to the fee. good luck.

904cafe-- get a buddy from up in the St. Mary's area to register the bike there as his, 'buy' it for $1, and the transfer the title down in JAX. A little bit of a pain, a few extra bucks, but easy to do.

If you don't know anyone in St. Mary's but you know people out at Mayport or NAS Jax, they know people at Kings Bay. They'll hook you up for a cold beer, I'm sure of it.

I live in Washington State & I just got my plate & registration in the mail today.

Ride Safe - Yeah Right! Wacky numbers aside ;D I'm pretty happy.
I went thru: http://www.its-titles.com It took 4 weeks, $125, a couple of pages of paperwork & I got a plate & registration in my name with their address from Maine, a state that doesn't issue titles. Much easier than finding the last owner. I did have a friend who used to work for the Police Dept. run the vin first & it was clear. Since the bike is sold, the new owner will bring the registration to the local DOL & have no problem registering it as an regular out of state vehicle, no inspection, just sales tax & transfer fee.
