Relocating electronics under seat?

Coast to Coast
Can anyone post a picture of a the electronics panel and/or battery and how it is mounted beneath a cafe or brat seat. I have a CB500/4 K.

Thanks!
John

Here's the tray that went on my 550.

I put the battery on the Swingarm

You can see how it looks here full on. Granted my brat was a K3/4 the concept is the same.

Most of the electronics fit in the tray minus the regulator and rectifier. The excess harness was tucked under the tank. I've built custom harnesses but some times a good clean factory harness will be best. In this case my harness was unmolested with the exception of 3 extended jumpers with used oe style connectors. Hope this helps answer your questions.

This in the best pic I could find woth all the junk in there.

I would buy that tray if you could make another and sell it to me?

Very cool.

1. What is that heat sink module just below the "pan"?
2. Did you make that pan yourself?
3. When relocating the electronics, did you have to extend the wiring harness?

Thanks!

Is the picture below with the red circle and arrow. Is that the rectifier?

We can make a small run of the trays if interested, the program is still saved last I knew. It will need a few things done on you end such as welding/bolting on tabs to hold the starter solenoid and a few holes to mount the regulator. The finned heat sink item is the voltage regulator. The rectifier is on a bracket aft the tray, that is the only item I extended which I just used jumpers with matching connectors. What year is your frame? The early 500/550 frames were dimensionally different. Not by much but just enough to matter. If you guys are interested feel free to message me.

You will obviously need to find a place to mount your battery. Mine was literally a metal box. I drilled the the Swingarm and used carraige bolts to lock her down. Ran the power wire to the starter solenoid up the side of the frame. Was clean enough to not bother me but there are better options. That one suited me :)

I have a 72 CB500/4 K. Would definitely be interested in 2 trays if you can make 'em. I have 2 '72 CB500 brats I am building.

Is there no room under the rear of the seat for a battery?

That looks like a full-size battery?

I will get back with you sometime tomorrow to see if the file is still there for laser cut. Would you want the tray welded or would you be ok with it just formed like the pic above? The final tray that went in was welded at all 4 seams but would cost less if you wanted to weld it up yourself. Also the hole is bigger as well to allow getting wires in better. We make a few other oddball items specific for 550/500 frames, we kinda have a soft spot for them haha. I'll build another eventually :)

P.S. Sorry for al the typos above, I'm on my phone bored and can't sleep haha.

I have a '76 CB550F. Welding and cutting are not a problem as I will be doing they to install the DCC ribbed cafe seat anyways. I just want a convenient way to store all the electronics under my seat like yours.

I have a Flux Core welder so I can weld the pan together.

Not if you want a brat style seat. Even the antigravity needs remote mounted. As you already noticed, I used a full size battery. Mounted sideways made it less terrible but a smaller battery does look better. Only real option to mount it under the seat would be to cafe it. Then you really don't need a solid tray because most will fit under the hump. You'll just have to extend all the wires or make a new harness. My bike saw both fazes. I preferred the Bratstyle after it was all said and done.

Like I told edelwiess, I will get back to you guys. Trays are laser cut and thrown on the brakes for clean bends.

Very cool. Bike looks great man!

The program still exists. However we are going to modify the program and fit test it on Andrews 74. We are discussing price still. It won't be terrible but it's certainly not free haha.

Right, but that's for a 750. Something more designed with my 550 in mind would in theory work better...
