Removable Cowl

Been Around the Block
Alright guys, I have finished shaping the seat for my CB360 build. I am going to have it covered by a local DTTer as soon as I can find something to cover it with. I am also going to fabricate a removable cowl (although it will probably stay on most of the time) out of fiberglass (wold love to make it out of metal but lack the skills to shape metal). Here are some shots of the final seat shape, I will post some pics of the cowl in progress once I start on it.

Dunno why you'd even bother with a cowl? Other than shaving down the 'bustle' at teh back, that seat shape is great...why cover it up?

I agree with you, but I think adding a cowl would add an extra layer of awesomeness to the seat.. I played around with a few methods to get the form for the fiberglass this evening, 1 envolving some aluminum foil and a shitload of ductape... that one didn't work out to well, and the other with some plastic sheets and a heat gun... neither worked very well, so I am going to wait till the weekend to try my next method...

If you're determined....

use blue painters tape for your first layer, then made a plaster mold and pull from that.

Determined I am....

Thanks for the tip, will be giving that a shot this weekend.

Cheers

I'm with you on cowls adding an element of awesomness. What is that foam that you have used to pad your seat and is it layed on a metal seat pan? Would love to see your build process as you make the cowl.

I used regular carpet padding to shape the seat, I also used some of the foam from the original seat to shape the hump and then covered it with a second layer of carpet padding. I need to shave down the sides a little to get it to look a little better. I will keep you guys posted on the build progress.
