Removing rust stains from black vinyl

Anyone have a tried and true method for removing rust stains from a black vinyl seat?

I bought a used seat in good, if somewhat soiled, condition.

Got the grime off but the material has rust spots here and there. I'm content to live with them ... but I wonder if there's something that will lift 'em out without damage and improve the material's appearance without making the seat too slick (or, worse, leave other stains where the rust spots were).

I did a few site searches (here at DTT) but came up empty.

If you know it's not leather for sure, you could try diluting some CLR (calcium/lime/rust) by about 50% on a rag and wipe at the stains.


It should go after the rust and not hurt the vinyl, but try it on an unexposed part first to make sure it doesn't pull the dye out of it as well.
